i was wondering the same thing. It wouldn't be like RB to pass up an opportunity to trumpet their box office success, if what you say is true (and I have no reason to believe it isn't). They've probably just been busy with the whole Reyna situation and the new signings.
At this moment we are around 50K tickets, you can expect around 58 K for that night. We doubtfully will be able to surpass the number we had last year.
how many did we have last year? i remember that pretty much every seat was filled besides the endzone upper deck areas.
Will you be doing a hard hitting investigative report on this game? sorry, couldn't resist the ribbing.
I want Mezzanine seats but Ticketmaster says all they have available are the 3rd level upper decks. Is it possible that I can buy 2nd Tier (Mezzanine) tickets by walking up to the ticket booth on game day and Ticket Master just doesn't have any more to sell?
I'd say wait. The game will probably not sell out completely. Get there early, and see if you can get the seats you want at the window, or if there is an acceptable deal from a scalper. Even if you can't get either of these, you can probably get the upper deck anyway.
The most official info I've seen was an email exchange I had with a ticket rep two days ago. They said 45,000 tickets had already been sold.
the weather is supposed to be in the 90s, which could curtail walk-ups... I don't think it's realistic for us to expect last year's number. If it's close to 60k I'll be happy.
Called NYRB FO because I am currently doing a story on the status of Beckhamania around MLS. According to the FO, they are over the 50K mark for this game, in terms of tickets sold.
They include the tiks given away and trade ins in that number too. Just an FYI if you are doin a story. Either way though, should be a great crowd. Even with less hype this year than last the numbers are very similar. Impressive. Hopefully the match is half as good as last years.
This story is for a local newspaper in L.A. called "San Fernando Valley Sun" and I am trying to add as much "Positive" info to the article. When I was interviewing Andrew Lafiosca (Vice President of Marketing and Sales) He told me that the reason the sale of tickets was doing so great aside from Beckham was also due to the fact that the FO added the "NYRB vs Barcelona" game as part of a package. For the best of MLS, lets hope the 66K mark gets broken.
Agreed, but I'm not expecting it to. Not with a heat wave, the team in last place and Beckham having played here already a year ago. I've spoken to several people who were at the game last year. When I asked them if they were going this year they didn't even know the game was this weekend!
It has been very under-hyped, but today I did see a front page ad for it on the cover of the free daily news in the city.
I agree. I really can't figure Red Bull out sometimes. They got such a huge response for this game last year and then this year they barely advertised or anything for it. Doesn't really make sense to me.
