I know no S.A. club could really match up against giants like Barca, Chelsea, Inter, etc. But are there any thats in the top 50 in the world?

    Why not?

And in the top 50, easily São Paulo and Inter (RS), as well as a couple of Argentine clubs I'd think.

As long as football is played between 11 players per team any team can beat those.

    I bet they could. ;)
Depends on what you look at. You can look at the Intercontinental Cup that South America and Europe have played since the 1960 and get some criteria out of it.

You can also look at the IFFHS Club World ranking.

    I can vouche. :D

Combine a great Copa Sudamericana with a decent Copa Libertadores (good performance even though they didn't go through). I don't know how they've fared in the chilean league though.

that IFFHS thing is a load of s--- trust me. there are numerous SA teams that could compete and are probably better than most euro clubs, but don't og by that website to prove or disprove it.

Maybe you are right... they've accumulated enough "points" or something like that.

Whether this ranking is right or not, I'm pretty sure the better SA teams can compete with the better European teams. If Europeans bothered to watch some Libertadores games they'd know how competitive we are.
