Last September Bob Evans wrote an open letter to the MLS on the level of officiating. Here is a link to "The Letter", http://soccer-ref.quietfire.com/BobEvansPaper.html Has the MLS officially (or behind closed doors) responded?
Actually if you recall, Bob Evans posted in this forum regarding the letter. As far as I am aware several reporters that I spoke to about it failed to follow through due to a lack of colloboration from MLS officials. I am not aware of any MLS or USSF response.
Re: Re: Any response to "The Letter" Unofficially through the rumour mill and of course we know the gist of how reliable anything could be . "Mind your own business" While it was not appreciated by some and sort of acknowledged by others it was not hailed as a complete overhaul of the system. Nor was the public display of the problems in the manner in which they took likely to endear Mr Evans to those who could actually want to effect change. One thing about egos even if they are well meaning , integrity grounded or full of certainty. When they collide they rarely agree. The above is my disernation of rumours, it is not factual in anyway other than my impressions, by some people I have talked too. The below piece to some extent as well. I also know the opposite view, the character of Mr Evans and the guts it took to state for all what was plain to see. The real feeling of dismay and the courage to do something or invoke some sort of warning about the problems being perpetuated on the game in the MSL. The above reflection was my perception of how other people appeared to respond. For myself I know that in any conflict and make no mistake this letter created conflict to seek resolution or address change laying blame generally creates a barrier that is not easily dismantled even if saliant points are addressed. Mr Evans's in effect called those not by name but a loose grouping of persons, cheaters, liers and basically very disreputale individuals. The letter was condesending and his statement as to the credability of the intentions and motives of the MLS is less than convincing. I asked myself, just what winds of change would blow forth from such a letter? Was this just a rattling of a cage or tree to shake out the monkey? Is this a form are you with me or against me literature? Was this a brave individual taking a stand to halt the advancing evil? Do we lack the courage to stop it? I suppose as in all opinions we have the right to voice our thoughts, our concerns. It is how we share our views. It makes one no more right or wrong as opinions are without substance in that once expressed they fade away. Our feeling are expressed, our character is exposed by the facts we challenge and the meat of what we bring to the table to back our play. So of this letter it would be best to ask one of four questions. Has it resulted in change? Will there be change? Does anyone care? Does anyone care to change?
