    I'm a New Yawker...

I chose to support NUFC for several reasons....
the stadium looks magnificent..... the crowd support seems very vocal.... i love the colors and design of the replica kit... Alan Shearer is absolutely amazing.... It seems like a very good organization that cares about its fans and what not... Alan Shearer is amazing....

So, tis my reasoning......On'y been watching the EPL since August 2001....

I only just joined the Toon bandwagon, after watching some of their games in the CL. I really enjoy watching the team and their style of player. I've become a huge fan of Craig Bellamy and Olivier Bernard. Also, the team seems to be able to attract and develop young talent like few others, so this will be a team to watch for years to come.

Oh, and I'm based in California.

You can guess where I am based. :)

I have been supporting the lads for 20 years now, ever since the ugly Peter Beardsley played in the NASL.

Another Golden State Magpie fan here too. The first ever EPL match I saw was Newcastle vs. someone I can't remember years ago. I liked the kits & the crowd support was great. My access to the club info was nonexistent until I got internet access. That's when I saw Daligish get sacked and had to go through the folly known as "Sexy Football" of Ruud Gullit.

Another Newcastle fan here based in New Jersey. Like the club for many of the same reasons you've mentioned. Great passionate fans that deserve to see them win some trophies. Love watching the 2001-2002 season review dvd as there are many great moments. Can't wait to pick up this year's season review as it looks like another top 4 finish and CL highlights!!!

Another newbie here, based in Ohio.

Became interested in soccer during Euro 2000, watching with friends who had grown up in Europe and were very passionate about it.

Finally got digital cable in 2001 and started watching English soccer. Newcastle appealed to me for reasons that have mostly been mentioned here already -- the fan support, liked the uniforms, liked the style of play, etc.

Your all so great. If anyone lives near Dallas you can go and see the future as the play in the Dallas U-something cup.

The real guy for the job is Viana, when and if Bobby lets him get into a central midfield position, his best role.

I am also Newcastle United fan, I'm from New Jersey. I am also a MU fan too. I was torn apart by the big game last week, I taped the game and watched it over three times already, it was brutal!

Toon supporter since about 1996 when I fell in love with the striker combo of Alan Shearer and Tino Asprilla on FIFA '96...yup, that's really how I came to support them...and now I'm diehard Newcastle.

I live in Massachusetts but for 3 more years I'll be in Ithaca, NY for about half the year for school.

I'd been trying to pick a team in England to support for years. I've always leaned towards Newcastle after watching an old highlight video that had some spots of Keegan in his Newcastle days. I also really admired the atmosphere each time I saw a game on tv, their history of being an offensive minded team, and, well, I really enjoy the beer :).

The clincher, though, was watching the game against Manchester United last week on FSW. Hearing the crowd continue to sing - even after all was lost - was the deciding moment.

    Newcastle is my team.

    Yeah, what he said!

And to second CrewToon's word, wise choice indeed. You'll find that Newcastle fans are the most die-hard & loyalest fans in the world. Through thick & think, just like some Boston Red Sox fans.

    Thanks!

Thanks for the welcome! The crowd last week was really something. I couldn't get over how they kept singing. As the kids get older hopefully I'll be able to take the family over there for a game.

If you know of a good place to buy some of the team's merchandise over here, let me know.

I'm a Toon fan from NY as well. I've only been watching EPL since about 10/01, but something about Newcastle just drew me in. I'm also a big fan of Bobby Robson, so that helped big time. I am in the process of redoing my basement and have been looking for a lot of Newcastle memoralbilia (sp). But anyway I am now a Toon for life. I could tell when I got pissed at the Man U result.

Guess it's my duty to chime in (I was on vacation when the thread began)... like the profile says, I'm in Boulder, Colorado.

The majority of my family is from the Toon, alas I've got none left there anymore.

Grew up spending summers and Christmas holidays on Tyneside and watching matches from the Leazes end with my uncle, who was always alert to lift me up onto his shoulders when the lads behind us needed to relieve themselves in the middle of the second half.

For those of you who only picked up on the team in the mid-90s, it's impossible to quantify just how much the ground has grown since 1990... everytime a televised match grabs a camera shot of the high stands, I still shake my head in disbelief.

    Here:

New York, probably one of the biggest toon army supporters around. Been a fan at least since 98 and would have been longer except im only 14. Only a shame we havent won the league since 1927 but next year its all us! Shearer is a hero of mine as the #9 stands for it in my screen name.
