I was watching that game on GolTV and saw him collapse live. I remember thinking thank God he got up and walked away, he must be OK. This sucks, for those of us who have spiritual beliefs, let us all say a prayer for his family, and his future child, that they can find comfort and solace in such a difficult time. Vaya con Dios Antonio
He was such an exciting winger in a team of exciting wingers. It's bound to take Sevilla ages to recover from this tragedy and his loss.
I was watching this at a bar Saturday afternoon and did not know what happened only that he had collapsed and that the training staff had anxiously been called onto the field of play. How horrible for him, his girlfriend and his family. Prayers and good thoughts for them in this time.
My condolences to his family, his friends, his expecting girlfriend and the team. He will be missed...even as far away as Tallahassee, Florida. I've been a fan since he joined the senior team.
Horrible, horrible news. I remember seeing it live on TV, and thinking he was going to go on the pitch, and then it looked like they had gotten him back...just very, very sad to hear he's gone. May his young soul find rest, and may his families (footballing and biological) find comfort. This is truly a terrible tragedy.
The ultimate irony being that this might open more doors into the Operation Puerto investigation so long swept under the rug by Spanish officials.
The scary thing is (according to wikipedia) that up to 80% of the time, the first symptom of this particular heart disorder is collapse and/or death.
This is horrible news. I only saw the highlights of what happened on sports news shows but it is sad and shocking - especially after he was able to walk off the field on his own. Thoughts and prayers go out to his friends, family and fans.
Something has to be done honestly do we know what caused this: what he ate or many other things have to be taken into consideration..Fifa has to begin to stop these deaths they are not good for the game..
It's apparently hereditary, and oftentimes the symptoms are provoked through exercise-related means. Wikipedia link I don't mean to threadjack a tribute to a talented player who died far before his time, but I think it's important to understand what killed him. By all means, let the tributes flow.
Don't count on it. They're too busy running to the bank to worry about a couple of kids who can't handle their medicine.
RIP to one of the most promising Spanish footballers. Another sad moment in football. Condolences go out to Antonio Puerta's family and the fans of Sevilla FC.
