I have kept up with the news re the Patagonia wildfires. This is the first time I have heard "Israeli settlers" being responsible for it. I have seen budget cuts (with Milei) and mismanagement,, but not this tripe. The co-founder of The North Face, Doug and Susan Tompkins, were well-known for buying large swaths of land in the Patagonia and then giving it back to the govt on the condition it remained undeveloped. Doug passed away in a kayaking accident, but Susan Tomplins is still good friends with Yvon Chouinard, founder of Patagonia clothing co. Both are huge environmentalists.
I still can't articulate quite why this discourse upsets me so much but here is the next instalment. Only days after the Administrations "antisemitism watchdog" decided to try to justify the murder of Pretti with the dumbest anne frank take ever, JD Vance just goes out there and forgets to talk about jews and nazis in his Holocaust remembrance remarks Josh Shapiro called him out. But where is the pushback from those will actual political power like, i don't know, the political leadership of Israel? I've complained about this for years but why do i bother. Good on Josh Shapiro anyway. “Remember that the reason why we memorialize the Holocaust on this day, really, essentially, is to never forget,” said Shapiro, a practicing Jew who has centered his faith in his public life. “And the reason you want to never forget is so that we never live through that atrocity again. Part of never forgetting is making sure that the facts of what happened are recited, are remembered. The fact that JD Vance couldn’t bring himself to acknowledging that 6 million Jews were killed by Hitler and by the Nazis speaks volumes. “It is not a surprise to me, however, given the way in which he has openly supported the AfD party, given the way he openly embraces neo-Nazis and neo-Nazi political parties, given the way in which he has offered comfort, really, to the antisemites on the right who are infecting the Republican Party,” Shapiro continued. “So it’s not a shock to me that he would omit that, but it’s a sad day that the vice president of the United States on Holocaust Awareness Day couldn’t address that.” https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/po...ng-comfort-right-wing-antisemitism-rcna256261
I've been reading reactions to the war against Iran and thinking about how this could play out. There's a contingent of Trump voters who viewed Trump as the "America First," "isolationist," "no foreign wars" candidate. The opinion leaders for those voters are vocally upset today. They look at this war as a betrayal of Trump's promises. The Venn diagram of the "America First" crowd and the antisemitic crowd has a real overlap. That is why, at some point -- and maybe this is happening already -- I expect that antisemitic "America First" opinion leaders will look at Israel's influence and involvement in this war against Iran, and start suggesting that Trump's departure from his "true" "America First" principles and purposes is all because of the Jews. The Jews, these antisemites will say, corrupted Donald Trump, luring him away from being "America First," and schemed to drag the United States into the war. The effect will be to excuse Donald Trump while scapegoating Jews and promote antisemitism. I am sure this is coming. Maybe it's already happening.
This already happened the first time around I get you guys don't check in on Candace and Tucker and Kelly and co but the fuentas neo-nazi zoomercon wing already won the battle to go mainstream and is the future of MAGA after Vance embraced them at TP USA I've made so many posts about this over the years that I simply don't care anymore. These are the right wing extremists Bibi supports in America and elsewhere.
I may be a bit more cynical, but I think "Why is my gas $5/gallon?" is going to be enough for that crowd.
I was one that doubted when you made this prediction a few years ago. To be fair, I thought you were referring to Trump and his people turning this direction and not a "new movement" coming from some of his influencer supporters at the time.
This sentiment can grow and go in overdrive if this Iran "operation" turns into a complete disaster. It doesn't help that Huckabee for example, goes on Tucker and sounds like a complete shill for Israel's conservative wing movement.
The insanity out of the White House and Rubio's dog walk comments are the perfect fuel for Tucker and co
Already seeing this. And it's going to get worse and begin to creep into the mainstream discussion. Reasonable people can distinguish between the actions of the Israeli government, and the wider worldwide Jewish Community. But not sure how long those distinctions will hold up in the crucible of our current political debate, under the pressure of an unpopular war. Going to be very dark.
You should all watch this piece in which Meg claims not to be antisemitic, while defending Tuckers antisemitism. She just wants to ask questions but is being silenced because you can't talk about Israel lol It's how they are mainstreaming it. “I will not be silenced by bullies of any kind…” @megynkelly opens up about being labeled an “antisemite" despite long history of being pro-Jewish.Watch and download: https://t.co/FjIiAjfcyc pic.twitter.com/bSt898hTD4— The Megyn Kelly Show (@MegynKellyShow) March 4, 2026
There's a problem with that line of thinking... US strikes on Iran triggered by Israel’s plan to launch attack, Rubio says Democrats disturbed by rationale that Trump ordered pre-emptive strikes out of concern about Tehran retaliation It becomes hard to attack people saying that the Israeli 'tail' is wagging the American 'dog' when the people organising the attacks come out and say the US wouldn't have attacked at this time, (they were supposedly in negotiations with the Iranians, don't forget), but the Israelis forced them to respond. That kinda makes it sound like the Americans have reacted due to Israeli pressure. But, also... Exactly! Whether the Israeli leadership HAVE pushed the Trump administration into acting earlier than they intended is another matter, (and, frankly, it's better to just accept that point, IMO, as it's obviously true), but what's that got to do with the wider Jewish community in the west? I suppose it might become an issue if Jews in the west go around explaining why the actions of the Israelis and Trump are all perfectly reasonable, it might be a problem but, outside of that, they're nothing to do with it, one way or the other.
If it is, you’ll be its biggest supporter. Well, ONE of the biggest. There will be another 2-3-4 around here.
Yeah, the use of the word 'if' is rather unnecessary at this point. I mean, it's being run by Trump. What are people expecting?
