I read Fever Pitch and got the impression that Arsenal fans have less racist behavior in their past than many other English teams. But reading this in today's Guardian is troubling:

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk_news/story/0,3604,1529009,00.html

"Football hooligans communicating over the internet have spoken of the need to put aside partisan support for teams and unite against Muslims. Hooligans from West Ham, Millwall, Crystal Palace and Arsenal are among those seeking to establish common cause."

I haven't been a fan for long. Could someone who has known the team longer talk about the history of their fans? Are gooners known as more/less tolerant/abusive than others?

I realize there are always a few bad apples; I'm just wondering how few, how bad, and for how long. Thanks.

I'm surprised Leeds' fans aren't on that list.

my guess is someone who claims to "support" Arsenal made a post on a message board that is frequented by hooligans and the press has taken it and ran with it

I hate this kind of hateful bashing. It's no different than skinheads targeting Jews. Fascists.

Basically every club has their element. Most of ours was banned after Copenhagen. But a lot came back last season from those bans. I certainly don't see this happening though. It's just another stupid reaction to what happened last Thursday. Quite simply if the country divides, the terrorists win. We can't let that happen.

Those racist pigs have no business dirty up the stands with their pathetic, sad souls. Have they been living under a rock for the past 10 years......COME ON! Every club in Europe in top flight football is loaded with players from various countries and representing numerous races.

Just look at the diversity on this Arsenal board......ONE LOVE!

There were a lot of similar racist sentiments here in the US after 9/11. Lots of Muslims were afraid to walk the streets for fear of retaliation by ignorant rednecks. Only the accents change, unfortunately.

Like RickB said every club - and every society - has a small percentage of people who make everyone look bad.

I had no clue Van Persie was muslim... interesting.

Muslim players, Jewish Board, and Frenchmen...Oh my! LOL...

That's cool...didn't know there were Muslims on Arsenal.

I could care less if our entire side were Gay, Icelandic Buddhists...as long as they play well, the more the merrier.

Robin Van Persie doesn't make you think Muslim. Well no one thinks Jewish, when they hear my name is Patrick.

Life is cool that way....good times.

I am surprised those arsehole Chelsea Headhunters were not included in the list. Hooligans and their gorilla logic...just the people you want confronting issues. What really gets me is that these "far right" Hooligans are Nazi sympathizers. The Nazis were not exactly sympathetic towards the British (mild understatement). I will bet that many relatives of these yobs gave their lives fighting Hitler's regime. By supporting Nazi ideology they have effectively turned their backs on Britian, not to mention their families. Now all of a sudden they have a pseudo sense of national duty and want to enact revenge? Huh???? They need to all dive back into the gutter and get one with their sad and pathetic lives.

4/5 games are played during the month of ramadan i think.

i i'd imagine he would eat before sunrise which the time varies from late 4-5am. train, early matches and then he eats again when the sunsets at 4/5pm.

if it's a night match then there's no problem.
