Not sure I quite understand this Anti-Freddie Adu thing going on. I haven't even seen the kid play yet. I'm willing to bet most of you haven't either. So why do we hate him already? Because he's popular and talented? Paul Dickov took a dive to try and sneak a penalty against Wolves. He tried to get Alex Rae sent off and the very next week he went to Spain only to get arrested on Sexual Assault charges. I'd say Freddie Adu can do alot worse. Let's not become England where we build them up and tear them down sneding them death threats like Beckham. So everyone calm down because you know you'll be begging for him to score when the US is playing. Now Hristo Stoichkov. That guy's a complete fvcking ************** and deserves to get hit over the head with an iron bar.
Even worse he WANTED to be a Unitard. He's not like those other poor bastards that got doled out and are forced to play for those rat scum. He made a specific request to be on my ******** list and there he will stay for eternity or until he wins the US a World Cup.
The way I see it is that it's not necessarily that most people are anti-Freddy. The person, that is. To be against a talent that could in some way raise the profile of the U.S. game would be nothing short of stupid. Of course, we should feel that way for any young player coming up the ranks, whether they're home or abroad. What I think the hatred is directed towards are those who single him out as being the BEST-ever talent, especially before he's even played one complete game at any professional level. It's ok to be cynical about a player who has been hyped so much and is known already world-wide as being THE new face of U.S. soccer, without proving himself to be as successful as those before him (Reyna, Harkes, Friedel, Keller, Wynalda, etc.). It's too early/naive to be creaming our pants over a 14 year old...and this is where the contempt towards those people comes from. I'd like to think that other countries don't feel the same way (ex: Brazil) when they produce a young talented field player, because they've obvious seen these types of players come and go. We as a soccer nation simply are not mature enough to handle the fact we have a solid youth player. That, and he plays for the Scum...'nuff said.
Agreed that this poor kid is way overblown for never playing, but is that his fault? It doesn't make me hate Freddy, it makes me disappointed in American soccer. Lets all calm down and let the kid grow up. And unlike LeBron, it will be hard to judge how good he is doing during his first season. The uninformed fan may see him as having little sucess if he has only 5 goals at the end of the season. I wish the kid the best of luck, as long as he doesn't lead the unitards to a title or help them beat us (Andrilius does that enough).
I hope he does well. I want the quality in this league to go up. I hate United Scum as much as anyone but I direct it towards their supporters. Should anyone hate Chad Marshall because he came to us? I can understand Freddie going to United. It's close to his home and for that reason he probably did the right thing. Why not hate the United supporters for their poor dress sense, their arrogance in season's past etc?
Leslie Stahl asked the right question of Bruce Arena on 60 Minutes last night. Essentially she said, 'those who know what to look for say Freddy a very special talent. What is it that makes him so special?' Arena then answered her question, noting his excellence is several key areas of the game. Pele' sees Freddy's talent as a gift from heaven, which his desire to play has developed into a set of skills that belie his age. Freddy is unique; get used to it. I'm a Metro fan, but I don't really care where he plays. I'm just glad he's playing in MLS for now. This season is going to be fun. Who came off better on 60 Minutes, Freddy or Condi Rice? In her dreams she should make such a great impression! We couldn't ask for a better ad the week before the season opens.
Not necessarily true. Think England and their saviour Michael Owen. Granted he was 16 when people in the island were creaming their pants but it still happens. Ditto Germany with Deisler and Ballack. Argentina and kid wonder Maradona. And how about that 16 year old from Brazil, Pele. It's in our nature to believe that we have someone good enough to take us to the promised land.
Why can't I just hate them both. Look, I hope the guy turns out to be BETTER than Maradona. I hope he's the greatest player in history. Takes the world by storm. Leads us to four World Cups. Did you see him on 60 Minutes last night? Seems like a reallly nie kid, too. But when he pulls on the Scum shirt, I hope Duncan Oughton tackles him into the fourth freakin row where he lands on hang's lap and gets puked on.
I think women are making me go soft cause I'm the only one saying anything nice. What the hell is wrong with me?
Remember when we had McBride and people kept on saying, "Why can't he produce for us like he does for the Nats?" I hope thats what DC fans wind up saying about Adu. I make no apologies for hating him already. Stewart was one of my favorite US players ever and I was able to hate him the second he put on the Scum uniform. Busch in the postgame press hit on what I expect to happen all season. Freddy will be the first player in this league to get star treatment, and frankly he doesn't deserve it yet. If such as situation as Bill so eloquently described were to take place I would gladly puke all over Freddy, and probably give him a cheapshot to the knees as he ran away. Realistically my ideal situation for Adu would be him to be batlling injuries like crazy and then every four years have an outstanding World Cup. But I really don't care to see him do anything well for DC.
Everyone here said they like Hang. They said he's a cool guy and how they want him to go to the game this week. I hate Hang. See how this works? Throwing around the word hate is too easy. I dislike any DC player but I hate Dema Kovawanko. See? Gotta get rid of that grey area.
I hope Freddy does well in the leauge, but with certain stipulations: There is a difference between 1 player doing well, and the team he plays for doing well. I hope DCU still sucks fat turds for the next decade, but I'd rather see Freddy become a great player. The reason is that 1. He could help raise the USMNT to the next level, bring home the World Cup. 2. He'll fetch MLS' record transfer fee once he hits 18. If he lives up to about 1/4 of the hype, he'll fetch at least $10 million. By then, the SJ Equakes are going to need to be bailed out for their pathetic fan support, so it will be good timing. So, as long as he doesn't score many vs. the Crew, and as long as DC still sucks, his potential success doesn't bother me. I will agree that the hype is just rediculous, and people that come around and say that "you're just jealous" are fcuking stupid. In fact, this whole Freddy mania makes me hate DC fans worse than ever. And along those lines, I'd love to see a firm walk into RFK and just beat the living $hit out of all of them.
I dislike Freddy playing for DC....He's such a wonder to watch. I didn't want to believe the hype, but I really get it now. In a way, Freddy scares me a bit. If he has a breakout year, who knows where DC could go... Some of me hopes he gets injured, which is real a**holish, I guess. But I'm not anti-Freddy, he's done nothing to warrant that in my book. I guess the thing that I do hate is that having Freddy will bring DC more fans and regular supporters, which just means that this world is going to be filled with even more scum than it already has.
I kind of feel bad for the kid. No amount of bathing is going wash the stench of that organization off of him. Not even a bath in tomato soup and febreez.
You can hate the player, but your accountants will love the extra ticket sales he'll bring your coffers when his bandwagon comes to town. And the media also (currently) loves him, so, that's a plus.
I hate people who use words like coffers, gaffer and wages. I've never met the kid, but I'm sure he uses all three. Just another reason why I hate him.
if it makes everyone feel better... if i cant get the directkick/freekick/shootout/extratime whatever package cause comcast is gay (and im guessing that this will be the case) then im gonna be in DC booing freddys every touch. if i still had the grim reaper poster i made for alexi lalas id bust it out for adu. hey, he DOES play in dc. maybe his downfalls will be off the field. like, say, getting shot, or just becoming another crack-addicted statistic. what will they all say THEN? freddy adu is a ********ing ********.
I would simply have to agree for the most part. I do think that Freddy is a talent that needs to be watched...but we are essentially building this kid up so much that at any sign of failure, we can all just point the finger at him. Frankly, he should have gone to Europe and played in a youth team and developed better, but now he will be playing with a target on this back. After all, what man wants a 14 year old boy to get past him...you see my point
Leaving lovesick messages on my voicemail is a weird way to show it. Anyway, you said you hate Dema Kovalenko. That's great, I do as well. But when I see someone new that has become DC's pride and joy I will hate them as well. Now, that person is Freddy since Santino Quaranta hasn't exactly panned out (and what fun is it hating someone that half of the Burning Brava's and Squealing Beagles hate as well). For me the whole, "they will be great for the national team" thing never really made me care too much. I don't think the US will win a WC in my lifetime. I am fine with that, I'm probably gonna die young and if the US contends or makes it to the round of 8 every World Cup thats still a helluva accomplishment. But I do want Columbus to win every trophy they can in my lifetime and I want nothing good to ever happen to DC again. They've had their fair share. Sorry, but Freddy falls in that boat.
