Tommy, I won't be as blunt as Mike, but a lot of MLS players get involved in various organizations of all kinds. It is almost always something the player himself feels strongly about, and is never to my knowledge dictated by anyone else. So I think it's safe to say that Howard himself chose to speak to this group.

If you have a problem with this, then take it out on your keeper. Tell him he is going to hell if he makes his girlfriend get that abortion. Maybe it will disturb him enough to let in a soft goal or two.

Timmy Howard and Tim Grafer are Christians and you guys are in a tizzy since they want to share there faith in the Lord with others? This seems to be a very bizarre post, at the very least i would hope you guys would look at it as wonderful way for these guys to reach out to others and share what their faith in the Lord has done for them. Their is no conspiracy here, in fact Howard is pretty outspoken about his faith. If anything i would imagine he volunteered for this awesome event for Chrusades for Christ.

I just don't understand your frustration Maverick. What is so wrong with guys who are great athletes, and great people! These are the guys we should be looking up to, guys who actually want to step out there and talk to their fans, and guys who actually have convictions and faith that leads them in the right direction. How can this possibly be construed as a bad thing?? I mean I saw Tab Ramos tell fans at a Metro game that he couldn't stop for 2 seconds to sign an autograph, but yet you are complaining about guys that actually go out and meet the fans, and this is what you are complaining about?? Very strange.

 

Phil is a private citizen and can do with his money what he wants, whether it's prop up MLS or fund anti-homosexual rallies.

Tim Howard is a private citizen and can speak at Campus Crusades for Christ functions. The insinuation that Howard has been forced into speaking by Anschutz can only be confirmed or denied by Tim himself.

Tommy is a private citizen who can ask Howard (a much more accessible pro athlete than most) if there's some coersion occurring, and either accept or reject Howard's answer. Tommy can also show his displeasure with Phil's political views by boycotting Anschutz-related activities, including Regal Cinemas, AEG Entertainment, MLS, Qwest, and whatever else he wants. Whether or not he can come here to BigSoccer to tell us about his concerns is up to Huss, since this is a privately-owned company that is not obligated to give Tommy a forum for his views.

Finally, Segroves is a private citizen and has the right to call Tommy an idiot.

I for one have a hard time believing that Anschutz is using his financial power over MLS to force athletes into making speeches at rallies that support political views with which the athletes don't agree. But, better for Tommy to ask Howard himself than try to insinuate something here.
