Phil Anschutz was voted the most influential person in American soccer in a vote of 553 fans at the SoccerAmerica website. 35%- Phil Anschutz (MLS investor) 14%- Lamar Hunt (MLS investor) 13%- Bruce Arena (USMNT coach) 9%- Richard Motzkin (agent) 7%- Dan Garber (MLS commissioner) 4%- Tony DiCicco (WUSA commissioner) 4%- Alan Rothenberg (former U.S. Soccer president) By the way, the June poll will ask fans to name the best and worst venues.
Wow. What startling news. I always say an online poll with a sample size of 553 is probably the most scientific way to find out things like this.
It's pretty telling about the world we live in - and this particular guy's reach - that an agent is voted more influential than the commissioner of the first division, the president of our minor league system and the head of our national federation. Of course, when you represent the national team coach, many of the MLS head coaches and most of the country's premier players, you are pretty influential.
