This only mentions soccer in passing, but I think it's very important for people to know about Phil's politics if they are going to call him the savior of American soccer fans. Between him and Rupert Murdoch (who brings us Fox Sports World), you couldn't be much more ultra-conservative. http://www.ocweekly.com/ink/03/35/news-callahan.php
That is the most leftist ass backwards article I have ever seen. So the guy is religious and conservative and wealthy that makes him a bad guy?? The guy had 30 million shares of Qwest he lost billions of dollars in that deal. He went down with the ship on Qwest. I guess in California if you are rich and don't support Gerbal chomping homos that makes you a bad guy!!!
When it comes to politics, I don't read anything that comes out of California. If I want my left-wing propaganda I will listen to NPR or read the NY Times.
I didn't see any mention of soccer. Most billionaires tend to be conservative. Gates may be the exception. Very biased article.
Wow, the man loves Jesus.........too bad, and I thought soccer had finally arrived. Oh well, got to wait for an all atheist league I suppose.
Which is why it's in a weekly. Guy can't write his way out of a paper bag. I guess Anschutz is the only company out there selling Stars of Hope and CMT donations and blah blah blah. Say Hi to Nathan next time he takes your ticket at the movie theatre. Because that's where he's going to end up writing dreck like that.
Although I'm probably fairly close to an Anschutz in my views and beliefs, I think the writer of the article probably ran into too many Christians that went straight to 'hell-fire and brimstone' talk, and people with a lot of money become an easy target. Anyway, Qwest is still doing business and according to press releases is clearing federal hurdles every week. (It hasn't stopped my government agency from awarding contracts to them).
Say it isn't so. Anschutz donates his money to causes he thinks will make our society better? He's against adults preying on children using the Internet? He thinks a child is better off with two parents than with one? Wish he would just buy himself a gaudy $100-million Neverland castle or something instead...
Move this to the politics form. And by the way, there is nothing wrong with California politics. Just like anywhere else in the country, different papers have different biases the LA Weekly and it's fledgling sister the OC weekly cators to the young adults of the LA area and I have to tell you they are overwhlmingly democratic. (Perhaps even that dirty word, liberal...) The OC weekly is trying to find an audience in a predominantly conservative area. I should know since I grew up in OC and now live in LA. Bottom line, the thing these weekly's are useful for are club listings not political commentary.
You should be ashamed of yourself to post such an obviously biased and pathetic article. Whether one leans to the left or to the right, this is just an outright embarassment of an article. Do not move this to the Politics forums, place it in its proper location, the trash. Andy
Obviously I agree with you Andy. I just figured the politics forum because quite a lot of what is posted there belongs in the trash as well...
Yah, now that you say that, you are right It seems like everyone agrees, except for the original poster or any of the moderators. Andy
