I'd have resigned to protest my being appointed ambassador to a place like Mongolia.

LOL my thoughts exactly...Ulaanbataar Footbal Club; their pitch is, well, unthawed.

That's what you get for not giving a big campaign contribution.

My question is: What took him so long? Why do it now?

I heard that he resigned over the first Gulf War, but the news is just now getting to America.

Didn't this happen a week or two ago... I seem to remember a thread about this one already.

Jeez, did anyone actually bother to *read* the article? ;-)

    "He" is a "she"...Ann Wright.

    Also:

"Wright said Thursday she sent the letter March 19, the day before the U.S.- and British-led attack on Iraq began. She planned to leave Mongolia in early April."

So it's not exactly a "new" resignation.

Was there another (and earlier) resignation that I missed, as the thread title suggested?
