I'm pleased to announce that Bistro Europa now has MLS Shootout and Fox Sports World for our viewing pleasure. The restaurant is located in Old Town Alexandria, right next door to Murphys on King Street. If you've not eaten there, be prepared for a treat. There's a great menu, miles ahead of what the other soccer-friendly bars offer, a full bar with some great beers on tap, friendly bartenders (except when I'm behind the bar ) darts and a pool table. And to make matters even better, the street level story is the restaurant, where you can make it up to your significant other for abondoning her/him to watch soccer. I encourage everyone to get out there and support them. The owner, Klaus Keckeisen, is a great chef and even bigger soccer fan. His whole reason for getting the Shootout and FSW is so he can watch soccer with other people. Bistro Europa 715 King St. Alexandria, VA 22314 Phone: 703-549-0533 I'll also copy this to the FAQ for Knave to add. Thanks, and see you there. Sachin
Re: Re: Another soccer friendly bar/restaurant Some, but not all. Any game on Univision or Telefutura will be shown there, but they don't have Galavision, or at least he can't find it yet. I'm going by there Thursday and Friday, so I'll check it out. I'll certainly be there for Thursday's game.
That's awesome, some place I can either get a cheap cab or take a long walk home from. Thanks for the update Sachin
Wow - less than a mile from my apartment. And I've always thought the place looked like a good one to check out...
Re: Re: Another soccer friendly bar/restaurant The King St. Metro is close by, but I'm not sure how long of a walk it is. Probably 3/4 mile or so, but don't quote me on it. BTW, you need to change your avatar. I forgot to mention one other thing, if there is enough interest, I'll be happy to talk to them about opening up for Saturday/Sunday mornings for people to watch FSW, since many of us can't get it around here. Sachin
Re: Re: Another soccer friendly bar/restaurant The King St. stop (Blue/Yellow lines) is about 8 or 10 blocks (about 3/4 mi., as Sachin says...) from there. It's probably a 15 minute walk, and fairly easy to figure out. When exiting the station, walk out to King St. (to the left) and head East (don't cross under the train tracks over King St., but the other way instead...) towards Old Town.
The Bistro is a great place to watch a game, good to hear that they've got the shootout and FSW. Going down to Old Town in the afternoon and then catching an away game at the upstairs bar is a great way to spend a day. Makes a pretty good date if your SO is also a soccer fan.
This would have been good to know when I was in Old Town for the United-Fire match a couple of weeks ago. I even stopped into Murphy's for a pint (and to dry out from the non-stop downpour). Little did I know there was a soccer-friendly place next door. Finding an MLS-friendly venue in the District proved to be a real pain (even the EspnZone seemed uninterested in showing the HDC opener .. and it was on espn2!!). Screw it. Next time, I'll check out this place.
If this is the place that hosted the World Cup Final party, then it is a great place. I didn't get killed even though I wore a Brazil jersey!! That the owner knows and appears to like Sachin is my only worry with it.
My office is moving to that neighborhood at the end of the year. This could be a great place to sneak out to for weekday afternoon games!
my office is just a few blocks from there. though in fairness i have to say i did have a negative experience in that establishment--though it had nothing to do with football viewing, just a normal lunch. no offense to sachin, just wanted to share my first-hand experience. i would still give it another chance for lunch (i do think it was fairly soon after they had opened) and would absolutely join you guys for an afternoon match.
Boy am I confused. You're saying that this bar doesn't have Galavision, and you agree that the game being broadcast on Thursday is on Galavision, but you will be there anyway. Apparently not to watch the US vs. Brazil match, I gather? oh well...
As am I. I got my Galavisions and my Telefuturas mixed up. Unless something changes (like Klaus discovering he has Galavision), the Bistro Europa will only show the USA vs. Brazil match on Saturday. My bad. Sachin
Will they be showing the match today (thursday)?? If so, Vicky and I will be there. If not then we may try Summers.
I don't think so. I've got Klaus checking to see if he has Galavision. If he does, I'll post here. As it is, it looks like the only Confed Cup match on tap is USA vs. Brazil on Saturday. Sachin
