Moderator ... please make this a sticky. Now that the trip to NY is close to sold out, the Midnight Riders are looking into a trip that's different from any other. Our past trips have taken us to NY, Columbus (first game at Crew Stadium, LA (the Open Cup final), and DC, but we've never attempted something like this. The Revolution will be playing in DC on Saturday, August 14th at 7:30 pm. A great chance to see our boys take on a division rival, and some kid who's apparently supposed to be good....and we can have our own Revolution party car, just for us, on an Amtrak train down to DC! We'll decorate the train to our hearts content with Revs flags on every window. Food will be provided and alcohol will be allowed. We depart from South Station at 8:40 am, arriving in DC at 4:30. We'll make all stops at 128, Providence, and in Connecticut to pick up passengers. The full list of available pick up spots is listed here, our train schedule. And your ticket will be open-ended, so you can come back from DC whenever you'd like. The package will include a discount on hotel rooms at the Courtyard Arlington Crystal City. We are putting a package together that includes your game ticket (TBD), round trip train ($143), and hotel room ($59 per room, not per person). The cost to you will be less than $200 if you split the room with friends! At this point, we need to know your interest in this trip. We need 60 people to make it happen. If we can do it, it should be an absolute blast. This trip is open to all ages. This is being done thanks to the help from a couple of current Riders, but they need to make reservations as soon as possible. If you are interested in this special train for the August 14 game in DC, please email us ASAP at themidnightriders@yahoo.com and let us know! As mentioned above, this will take time to reserve, so we need to know basic interest by mid-May, and would be collecting deposits immediately after that. This will give people a month to figure out if they can do this. Also please forward this email along to others that might be interested. Once again, the people that have heard about this trip before have expressed immense interest. Let's make this happen! Monty
For those that are interested, please email us at themidnightriders@yahoo.com, as it's the easiest way to keep track of the count. We're up to 20 who have emailed.
Alright, it’s finally here … we have DC trip info! The trip is officially on, and we’re going to try and spread the word. Please pass this along to anyone you believe might be interested. The cost could actually be even lower than we had thought! I would like to quickly thank Mike Toole and John Englert for all the work they put together on helping out with the hotel and train info respectively. Thanks a lot gents! I need to know ASAP (email me at themidnightriders@yahoo.com) if you’d still be interested in doing this trip, so I can get a ticket count going. We need to book tickets for the game hopefully by the end of the month. I also need to know if you might know of someone who lives down there that would like to meet up with us for the game. We currently have two cars that will have space for us to throw bags into prior to the game starting, but a couple more probably wouldn’t hurt. Basic Info: The plan now is to take the train down as a group, we won’t have our own car, but we will have the ability to hook up in one car. It will cost $89 for a one way from Boston to DC. For those of you that won’t be coming all the way into Boston, I’m assuming it’ll be a bit cheaper (??) if you get on at one of the many stops along the way. We have hotel rooms available at the Courtyard Arlington Crystal City/Reagan National Airport, for just $59/night. You can stay for as long as you want. I just checked AirTran, Independence Air, and Southwest online, and there are flights available back over the next few days beginning the 15th of August, either into Boston directly or Manchester (for those like me). The cost of those flights is as low as $54 on AirTran and $49 on Southwest. Game tickets are $17. So here’s the info you need: Train: We will be traveling a-la-carte and everyone would need to make their own reservations. We will get some or all of a car (depending on the numbers) going down to DC. Folks can BYOB and there is a cafe car onboard. We will also conduct the NYC Penn Station Lower Level Beer Dash, where you can buy 20oz Buds for $2.00 from the newstands while the train is in New York. (Not that any of us drinks that water! The Riders train that folks should book is: Train 99 Departing Boston 8:40am, arriving DC/New Carollton at 4:30p. This train makes many alternate stops going south, including Back Bay, Route 128 and Providence. The current one-way is $89. Tickets can be booked at amtrak.com or by calling 1-800-USA-RAIL. Hotel: The hotel is the Courtyard Arlington Crystal City/Reagan National Airport. To get a Friends & Family rate of $59/night for a 4-person room, use the corp/promo code MMF when booking. If the booking agent wants to know, you’re a friend of Mike Toole’s, he works at the Boston Copley Marriott’s Event Tech department, and can be contacted at 617-236-5800, ext 5405. For those of you that haven't booked your hotel room yet ... the Courtyard $59 friends and family rate is no longer available (all rooms are booked for that rate apparently). But ... this is actually better ... they have the F&F rate available at the Crystal City Marriott (a much better hotel) for $79/night, and it's only a mile away. But I'd book now. Also, if you're a AAA member, you can get on the train for $80 one way ... We've only heard from 15 people who are going on this trip ... c'mon folks, it'll be a blast. Monty
Hey Monty, is tickets still available through the Riders? I know I probably will have to book my train and hotel tickets seperately, but I figure that a road trip like this is a groovy way to celebrate turning 30
We are extending the deadline for tickets through the end of July ... so yes, tickets are still available. Monty
Great. I decided to make a full weekend of it (fly back Monday, since I have Mondays off), and have booked flight, hotel and car. I'll get you the money for the ticket before Wed night's game
Nice mention of this trip right on the front page of the Revs site today, with link to the info. Hope this generates some response.
Yeah, I noticed. Not really all that happy about it, but the guy said that's where they normally stick opposing fans. Not sure if that's true or not. I know a few years ago when we came down, we sat across from the Eagles/Barra Brava.
I think he made that up Here's to hoping one day we have stadiums with designated areas for away fans like in other parts of the world
