Hey MLS supporters and fans, a few days ago i heard on univision that there is talks about another mexican club coming over here to MLS. I mean c'mon, I HATE CHIVAS!!!!! America is my favorite team from mexico but i still dont like them coming over here, and Now this other club wanting to come over here. I dont remember which club it was but as fans and supporters, we need to do something about this. This is promoting mexican soccer even more than it already is in the US. This is the last thing we need!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What are you talking about? MFL teams come over here all the time to play exhibitions.

If we have the team owners buying and building up MLS teams, they will be MLS teams. Just like ReAL Salt Lake isn't a La Liga team, even if it is affiliated with Real Madrid.

The "Mexican" teams have to make most of their teams from American players just like the rest of MLS. The owners and the mexican fans are spending money thats going towards developing more American players which in turn helps US soccer. Hispanics will soon be the largest minority in the US. If dont find ways to appeal to them we are wasting a large potential fanbase as soccer is usually the most popular sport in their culture. If you hate Chivas, that is fine. You, me, and a bunch of other people can go to the games and root against them.

yeah Heavean forbid we inject millions of new capital into our league and expand the amount of teams and our fan base!!!!

Look I think this is a great thing. I want you to explain to me in detail why this is a bad thing and I will give you a list of factual benefits of this type of expansion occuring.

I surprised a lot of foreign clubs haven't bought an MLS franchise yet. Consider the advantages to them:

    1) A lot of the staff functions done by single-entity. Or at least business practices can be borrowed pretty easily from team to team.

    2) Capitalize on the name recognition to sell merchandise in the US

    3) Steady attendance

    4) Known economics. Although teams don't make money yet (most of them), the financials are well-established. And it is remarkable that all a team needs is an SSS to get profitable.

    5) Access to raw but dirt cheap players from an untapped market.

    6) MLS plays in an off season - potential overseas broadcast rights.

    7) Smart, savvy, commissioner

    8) No messy promotion/relegation to diminish the value of the investment.

    9) Fans with high-tech internet forum :D

Let's wait to see how the whole Chivas deal works out before completely hating the idea. What the league really needs is committed owners. Vargera certainly seems to be one. As long as they play by the rules I'm OK with it.

I hate Chivas USA also, I don't mind Mexican owners bringing they're money here if it's gonna help the league, what I do hate is bringing the names of they're teams here like Chivas, that can't be allowed anymore, I don't think we want a Necaxa here and then a Cruz Azul..etc..the teams should have original names in ENGLISH ( yes, Real S.L. is stupid, and what's up with the crooked "e"? it look's like a logo for food product like GOYA).

It's not like every team in Mexico is wildly popular among ex-pats. Yeah, Chivas and America have huge followings, Pumas and Cruz Azul would probably come next, but they don't have the support Chivas and America do and would probably not look to do what Vergara did. It's not like we're going to have Chicago Atlas, Santos New York, Dorados San Jose, come on. Think about it.

If America gets into the action, great. Another team with solid financial backing which will help the growth of soccer in the states and help promote Major League Soccer abroad. I don't have a problem with that.

I am shocked by all the Chivas hate talk. When next year rolls around and you have a choice to see LA vs Chivas or any other match, which channel are you gunna tune into? I suspect all MLS fans already know the answer to this question.

I have changed my position on this matter. If they got the cash and the US player limit isn't reduced by more than one then I say hey, come on in.

If we can export McDonalds, Starbucks and Kmart then Georgie V and his compatriotas can buy in to our league.

Hey they got cash and we need it. Let the market forces dictate and let's see what happens...

I'm just guessing, but I suspect you think "DC United" is the best team name in MLS?

United is not original but you have to admit that it fits perfect, plus it's in ENGLISH, no I do not want an Arsenal or celtic etc... but it had to be stoped after ChivasUSA, let's try to be original from here.
how do you put a post that you reply in that yellow rectangle???

I normally don't engage in conversation with folks who aren't smart enough to figure out the "reply" button, but here goes.

So America should only use the English language? Is that your position?

I love DCU. The name has grown on me but it still sucks. We're not English anymore than Salt Lakers are Spanish. FC Dallas is a friggin joke. Yeah, the FC is really gonna make a difference. The Wiz was a dreadful name (understand that KC couldn't get the rights from the minor league team in Delaware, but please...). Clash was dreadful. Galaxy suck. Crew? Great supporters & organization (see, I spelled it with an "S", the good ole American way). Sorry name and very shaky logo (Y-M-C-A comes to mind).
Just what in the hell is a MetroStar, anyway? Did dropping NY/NY really help?
I'm not even gonna mention the Clash, the Mutiny, the Fusion or the Fire.
    Ok. Maybe I will.

Of all the hurting MLS names, Rapids sucks the least. At least compared to Avalanche and the Rockies. In stays along the same thread/trend of nature. But it sucks compared to Broncos (a real American name).

I think that ya kinda get the point:

My good ole American steak is your friggin' filet mignon. It's all relative and only matters if people actually want and buy what you are selling...

Ha, the reply button of course, but why didn't you just say that instead of an insult? I wonder if we were face to face you would've replied that way, hmm, I think not but I'm sure your a tough guy and obviously with lots of class.
Anyway most names unless terrible (like earthquakes) will grow on you with time and success of the team, Fire, crew, rapids, metrostars..etc Those are names that have a meaning for each city and with time they'll sound good, you think Pittsburgh Penguins or Flyers sounded good in 76?? but it's a great name now after becoming a winning team, all I was saying it's lets be original about our team names, no FC, no Chivas, specially no real.
And to reply to that moron once more, America would not be an original name wouldn't it? that's my position.

10 million dollars and 27,000 people at next years home opener will disagree with you!!! Its a name.

Personally the name Chivas sound alot better than Metro Stars.

Actually, the Flyers and the Penguins probably sounded pretty good when the teams started. Alliteration and all.

I got the part about city traditions (but why in the hell would you name your team after a disaster--think about it a moment).

Ya still didn't explain what a MetroStar is, though.

I think a lot of time will have to pass before any MLS team names sound really good. Including DCU. I think that people will just get used to them.
I feel you on the FC, Real,--let me throw in my beloved United, so I'm not a hypocrite. I got no beef with Chivas, though. Naming your team after a friggin billy goat is no worse than naming your team after alot of the other many stupid team names that exist in this country. Hey there's slim pickin's.

Just a word of friendly advice (really). Don't take anything you read on this board too seriously. The world is full of self-identifying geniuses. Many of them are on this message board. No one's opinion is more important than anyone elses, so what difference does it make if you someone's trying to clown you. Sometimes things look harsher in print that they were intended to be...

And then again, sometimes people around here really are trying to piss you off... In the end what sort of difference does it really make. I used to take things too seriously here, now I don't so much... They are just opinions. Everyone's a critic. That's why we have the message boards...
