it is still in the rumor-mill but this is bigsoccer and rumors are wildly popular (right next to pictures of hot Brazillian girls in the Free For All Forum)

    Here are the details.
Big Soccer RAdio announced the rumor/report

(note the word 'according to reports' thus it is not a done deal.

For more information, visit this thread that discuss this rumor. (just doing my part) got to love BigSoccer.

When the change the color of the lettering at his "coming soon forever" site to Chelsea blue from red, I'll worry.

Is $4 million normal for these kind of rights?? I know chelsea enjoys wasting money, but this is going overboard I'd say! What about all those under-17 players on the Brazilian team who looked much better than Adu?

    with due respect, NO.
Since the other thread is in the Youth Soccer, not a lot of people visit that. And the other one is in the US Youth Men (Boy) forum, both of which MLSers do not usually go to. Since this the official message board for MLS (only MLS news and analysis, expansions, and mls fans or MLS in general----the other are just part of Big Soccer like FIFA Tournaments) the more people know this information the better.

And 3.2 million pounds does not equal 4 millions US dollars. IT is a little more than 5 million Dollars US. So Chelsea is putting up 5 million dollars for 'right of first refusal?'. Good news for MLS then, in a way, since it wasn't 'signing a contract' as the Rumor originally suggested. But 3.2 million pounds is not a lot of dough to a guy that signed over 100 million pounds just to bring EXTRA players to his club (i believe just for the transfer fees and such). If they get their hand on Adu, wow, Chelsea is looking more Man U than Man U does. However, I hope he does play in MLS.

I suppose it's not THAT crazy of an idea for Chelsea. Consider that Cristiano Ronaldo(18 yrs. old) sparked a bidding war between Man U and Chelsea that ended with Man U spending over 12 mil. pounds. Chelsea could just be betting that Freddy will be as good as Cristiano when he turns 17. If he is, Chelsea could be saving themselves a butt load in the future. If he's not, they wasted 3.2 mil. pounds($5,102,719). Obviously, in their eyes, the risk is worth the reward.

Of course, all of this is assuming that this rumor is true. Which I am not entirely sure it is.
