I think Wooley got nailed because it was deemed NOT in the run of play, pure retaliation. Although I didn't see it, sounds like this was in the play, so I wouldn't surpise if there was no fine or suspension.

Don Garber is not going to suspend someone they consider one of their "marquee" players, especially with it being a nationally televised match.

It's easier to "set an example" with a player who is replaceable such as Wooley.

Who cares about Ruiz. I want to see Bo ;)

Riverplate your selfishness is absurd. You think that just because you paid money to see this team play, Ruiz shouldn't be suspended? You know, what if I paid my good money to see Carey Talley play for the next month??? Works both ways.

Discussion is not over because MLS announces its decisions on such matters on Thursdays.

Ben C, you are a moron. The soccer... sorry, futbol world of this country revolves around riverplate. After all, his seats cost $36. And he knows real futbol. You can't say that about yourself, can you?

I don't think it's possible to spend $36 on an MLS seat in Arrowhead without getting a Loge Box or a Suite in the deal. 1st row midfield is $17 and the Suite Level is $21 at the most.

What's selfish is wishing for the other club's star players to be out so the home team can get an easier match. If this were an isolated incident, I wouldn't mind. It's just that every week people are calling for this guy's head on these boards and it's turned into "the boy who cried wolf" syndrome. I don't want to hear it anymore.

As far as the price I pay for tickets, the extra cash is being put into an escrow account to be given to David and Posh when they decide it's time to make the MetroStars his retirement home...er, I mean, club.

You are so correct. I hope he plays and puts a few more players in the hospital. After all, he's a star player.

Stick your head out of your ass, riverplate. It might help. But I wouldn't bet on it.

Lets see....I think Ruiz should be suspended 3-4 games. In their next four games LA playes Metros, Dallas, Colorado, and New England. They dont play KC until Sept. 27. Do you think I give a rats ass if Ruiz plays against those other four teams? Nope, not one bit. I do think a player should be punished for his actions, and that is my only motivation for my opinion.

Interesting to see what happens. Dema got 1 game and $ 1000 for breaking a leg, Woly got 2 games and $ 500 for a concussion. If anything, Dema's tackle was the worse of the two. Woly got more games and less money, not sure about the rational on that one.

Question for MLS is: Do eye bones and leg bones count the same?

Consider that Woly makes the league minimum and Dema probably makes close to 100K...

I realize that, but it makes no sense to suspend people and fine them based on their salary. What other league does that?

Even though they've gotten rid of the gimmicks like shoot outs, MLS can't be expected to be taken seriously if it looks like they are pulling league rules out of a hat every time something comes up. Rules need to be uniformly and consistently applied. This whole "well, the ref gave him a red so we can't punish him" in one case and "he is suspended games because the ref didn't see it to penalize him originally" is totally incongruant. What MLS is basically saying is if you are going to commit a horrible play, make sure the ref sees it, because if he does it's a red and you'll only be out part of one game, whereas if he misses it you get to finish that game but sit out the next two. They've made the ref calling the foul change the foul.

Pick one set of rules and go with them, applying them to whomever deserves it everytime they deserve it, regardless of how much they make. If Woly knew he was going to lose $ 1000 (or basically two weeks pay at $ 24k minimum), maybe he doesn't throw the elbow. If you fine on salary basis, Dema can "afford" to be a dirtier player than many others in the league, and how is that fair? Do we call it OJ justice? The rich can foul, the poor cannot?

    2 games and $1,000. Sorry riverplate. :D

The only way MLS can justify giving Kovalenko just one game is if they feel that there was no intent to injure O'Brien. He still deserved more.

MLS will be hard pressed not to punish their star at least as hard as they punished their MLS cannon fodder like Wolnyiec.

Hey, remember when Diallo stepped on Mike Ammann? No . . . wait, they did what to Diallo? Nevermind.

Justice demands that they had better punish Ruiz as hard. Wolyniec was assaulted twice before retaliating. The "run of play" defense is nonsense. Contesting for position in the box is as much as "run of play" as challenging for a ball.

I bet the MLS though finds some other justification for going light on Ruiz that we are not creative enough to concoct on our own.
