Note that Real SL is next to last. Probably because of that 'hospital' guy (what's his name...Atiba Harris?) who got red carded out of the Real Madrid game. If I'm right that in the team stats 'C' stands for cards and 'E' stands for ejections, then he leads the team...6 cards and 1 ejection.

One pundit called him the most reckless tackler in the league. Peter Nowak was right to consign him to the hospital (probably suggesting that he do community service as a candy-striper). As usual, Peter Nowak was on the cutting edge in analyzing the game on the field. The guy really throws himself around.

    So what''s changed?

    - Notice how the fouls rates of all teams had gone down since early in the season. It's like every team had to take a month or two to get used to each other.

    - relative to the other teams in the league Dallas has cut their foul rate. So has C-bus, Chivas and the Revs. OTOH, LA, RSL and NY still foul at a high rate.

    - DCU, KC, and Chicago continue to foul less often.

I guess we can expect to get hacked up in tonight's match. The Gals are the worst in the league.

Tyrone Marshall put a wicked hit on a Crystal Palace player at the 1/2 friendly they played in Richmond last month. Hopefully he's still consigned to the bench.

So we're fouling like crazy AND getting out-muscled? Well, that just pisses on my whole day. :(

No - Josh Gros and Erpen decided to have a challenge to see who could pick up more stupid red cards at the end of the season. Fouls per game only increased by .5.

We were averaging 13.5 fouls per game over the first 23. We averaged 15.7 over the last 9 to bring the average up to 14.1.

    Fuzzy math :)

So, you are saying that we average only 2.2 more fouls per game but the things left to the discretion of the referee (i.e. when to toss cards) dramatically increased? I guess that just shows how unbiased MLS referees are...

DC United (first 23 games) 38 Yellow Cards 1 Red
DC United (last 9 games) 25 Yellow cards 4 Reds

Yea, that fits well into my post-war communist theory about referees being told to "enforce parity"?

Seeing that CJ Brown only got 3 yellows for the entire season was already proof positive for me to know that. One of the biggest thugs in the league ........... 3 yellow cards. Gimme a break.

...and confirms my belief that the refs are total short bus material.

NE with one red card! One! With Heaps, Larentowicz, Franchino, Lochhead, Reis, Avery John, Khano Smith, "Elbows" Twellman, Dempsey, Joseph, et al. I mean, that's the most hacktastic team in MLS if not the world. They should get a red card just for having Brad Felcher as their announcer.

And how when DC starts losing and playing poorly, their frustration really starts to show.
