I expect Wizards fans to start a "Save Our Wizards" campaign. This city doesn't deserve to lose a team.

    yeah i agree.

a reporter asked him hypothetically if a local community were to pony up the cash for a stadium if he would hang on to the team. Hunt said no...the family must focus on the Chiefs.

The radio announcer is saying that it's all about getting public financing for the new Chiefs stadium, sacrificing the Wizards for the big money. Frankly, he's probably right.

It just seems disappointing to me that Hunt can get stadiums for teams in 2 of his 3 cities, and Kansas City of all places is the one that doesn't. Nothing against Columbus or Dallas, just doesn't seem right.

He specifically said there is no local buyer that he's aware of, so yes, this looks like a prelude to selling the team out of the market. Gotta be a real wake up call to people in the city.

this begs the question, Wizards are sold and moved to City X. Do KC fans follow this team or do they become more fans of MLS in general?

For all the jibing, losing a team (if that is indeed what happens) sucks, even if it is to youse guys.

No effing way. Just pointing out.

Anyway, this sucks for you guys. I'm not surprised that he's kind of issuing an ultimatum, but it seemed more desperate than I expected.

    Re: Announcement Discussion Thread [R]

The only good news is that "the MLS" will be getting another I/O who will just have an interest in a single franchise.

Oh, my. What did K.C. draw for the Western Conference Final -- was it 12,000? Well, who can out-bid Club America if the Eagles really want to get into the league? If so, maybe we have to assume (unfortunately for Wizards fans) the odds are that "the MLS" will be getting another Texas team for 2005. Well, here's your golden opportunity -- Canada.

Depends, probably won't know until it happens if it does. Most cleveland fans, even prior to getting the Browns back, refused to follow the Ravens.

Be aware of what forum you're discussing things in. We're not dead yet.

Plus. If Frank DuRoss had the $10M to buy the Wizards, he would've been in MLS years ago.

    Mike,

What are the chances for an OKC team in 2007?

    ???

I suspect that the net annual gains from having an SSS are less than the annual amortized costs of the SSS. (I hope I didn't muck up those econ terms. The point is, if the stadium is gonna cost $60M and last 30 years, and it only saves him $1M a year, it's a bad deal.)

That is, if it's restricted to MLS alone. What makes these winners is either a) they're built super cheap or b) they attract plenty of other events (high school football, concerts, etc.)

Can't happen, as I understand it. Doesn't FIFA require top-level leagues to be single-country only?

Unless you consider Rochester (a nice little city, BTW) to be Canada :D

As hard as it is to believe, it almost sounds like he wants them not to stay in KC. Its hard to believe that he wouldn´t call up a few rich people around town. He knows who they are. This is a show.

Back in September/October, they told us in SJ that it was too late to find another city to relocate to for the 2005 season, they wouldn't be able to get a stadium deal and ticketing infrastructure in place by then.

If that's true, I doubt that the Wizards will be anywhere other than Arrowhead next year, but beyond that... well, I hope for the best for both our teams.

If you want to discuss the Kansas City Wizards - discuss.

If you want to discuss the Rochester/Houston/Vancouver/Oklahoma City Wizards - please take it to the MLS forum.

    Thanks,

    KC's fans.

    That's what I thought, too.

Let Canada make their own league, MLS has enough problems already.
