Re: Announcement Discussion Thread [R] If he didn't outright say it me might as well have. The question I have is why have a news conference to announce this? Selling the team, in itself, doesn't need a news conference. Perhaps there is a degree of gamesmanship with this announcement.... as someone said before...put some pressure on locals to get a SSS together. I took from this that he wants to sell fast ... preferably KC but if not, then somewhere else.
Re: Announcement Discussion Thread [R] here comes the mexicans....come on we need an American investor, pony up you pansies...
Re: Announcement Discussion Thread [R] If Televisa buys the team, what are the odds it ends up in San Antonio or Houston?
Re: Announcement Discussion Thread [R] And perhaps we now know for sure why KC was moved to the East and not Dallas. Even as they look for a local buyer (hope they find one), the Toronto's and Rochester's and such of the world have to be forming a line outside the team offices. This could get ugly.
Re: Announcement Discussion Thread [R] Wizards for sale. Any buyers? Rochester? Houston? San Antonio?
Re: Announcement Discussion Thread [R] He is open to a prospective buyer using Arrowhead in the interim, but would recommend to any prospective buyer that it would not be feasible to operate out of Arrowhead long term. SLC: 10 Mil CDCU: 10 Mil
Re: Announcement Discussion Thread [R] He's not kicking the team out of Arrowhead, at least. Typical MLS team sale price = $10 million. Not exactly a big increase in equity value over nine years.
Re: Announcement Discussion Thread [R] I'm sorry, Hunt has the cash to build a stadium himself, but he is trying to blackmail KC and the league. This isn't right.
Re: Announcement Discussion Thread [R] Well, at least this gives all of us MLS fans MLS related stuff to talk about over the coming months.
Re: Announcement Discussion Thread [R] I find this hard to believe. Isn't the team payroll for the Wizards about the same as the salary for one good linebacker?
Re: Announcement Discussion Thread [R] Big thing for me is that he said he (paraphrasing) isn't going to go out and sell the club, just that he is going to entertain offers from other groups/cities. Not sure how to really take that, maybe it's more of a if a good offer comes along we'll take, otherwise we'll hold on to them (ala AEG and DCU). Welcome to the auction block I hope it goes quick and as painless as possible for you. Damn that knocked the wind out of me I don't think it would have been as bad if they already had a buyer lined up. This nebulous thing is just mean ... Sorry guys. -dave
Re: Announcement Discussion Thread [R] He already ponied up for Columbus and much of Frisco, why should he have to do it for another franchise too?
Re: Announcement Discussion Thread [R] So much for a purely upbeat offseason. Still exciting, but then exciting has a lot of definitions and we've passed from the good one.
Re: Announcement Discussion Thread [R] This may be the best bet that Rochester has. Although the league has used them as leverage before, they are now be the only city with a stadium already being constructed. With the knowledge that they would only play in a minor league baseball stadium for a couple months, I could see the league moving them to Rochester and then frontloading their away games in order to play as many games possible in PaeTec park.
Re: Announcement Discussion Thread [R] While KC fans can gripe about Hunt's commitment to a Wizards stadium specifically, I don't think you can look at his investments in MLS overall and say that he's just out to blackmail the city.
Re: Announcement Discussion Thread [R] For Frisco, he ponied up about $15 million of the total cost of $60 million. Hardly "much" of Frisco's cost
Re: Announcement Discussion Thread [R] I disagree. Same as AEG in San Jose, these guys have to put their feet down somewhere and get other people involved. Sucks for the people of those communities, but diversity is the key to success.
Re: Announcement Discussion Thread [R] He just said that there is no circumstance under which he will keep the team, basically. So its whatever the best offer is for the Wiz. Hopefully for your sake, in the Kansas City area, but probably not.
Re: Announcement Discussion Thread [R] I feel like my super hot, blonde haired, long legged, big breasted, sweet a$$ girlfriend just turned to me and said "We need to talk..." Not that I actually have that but you catch my drift...
Re: Announcement Discussion Thread [R] My question exactly. I understand you just can't put the team on EBay, but there's gotta be more to it. I think maybe some backroom deal has been potentially discussed with a buyer and this just sets the stage. Anyways, it sucks for KC fans. Sorry guys
