I have got back to action from an ankle injury, their is still a bit of pain when I kick the ball and it connects with the top part of my ankle. I was wondering if anybody knows whether wearing ankle supports underneath my socks would help support my ankle and prevent pain when I make contact with the ball at the top of my ankle????
I can't really comment on if a brace will prevent the pain but one can help it from becoming injured again. From my experience, some pain will never go away. I have had each ankle operated on and still can kick some $%$ with braces. I still have some pain but it does not get worse when I wear a proper brace. Here is a good place to find a brace: http://www.medco-athletics.com/ I use the following braces: Mueller® Soccer Ankle Brace - IMHO this brace should be used by all soccer players even if they have never been injured. It is very minimal and would prevent alot of injuries or some from being worse. If I had access to these braces when I was young and knew what I knew today, I would have worn it from day one on both feet. http://www.medco-athletics.com/List/Product.asp?Leaf_Id=160919 Mueller® High Performance ATF™ Ankle Brace - this is a great brace once you have had an injury and there is still pain or if ankle is unstable. They are correct with the statement "unrestricted foot movement for jumping, speed, agility". I use it on my dominant left foot and it does not hinder me in anyway. http://www.medco-athletics.com/List/Product.asp?Leaf_Id=15031 Don't forget ankle exercises and stretches.
I just wanna add to that... take some rest maybe, and as senorbuckwheat said just keep doing ankle exercises. Yes, ankle braces help, but once you start using them your ankle starts to rely more and more on them and you may have to use them for the rest of your playing time.
