I believe this says that he was born in the States and has signed with FK Željezničar of the country's first division. https://fkzeljeznicar.ba/predstavljamo-devet-juniora-koji-su-potpisali-ugovore/26702/ T'Markt has him as a '99 who was with their U17s last season, so that may just mean he moved up/joined the U19s (or, as the data site suggestions, perhaps the B team). https://www.transfermarkt.com/anel-sabanadzovic/profil/spieler/376106 And it would explain the timing of the publication of this video. In one of the highlights, he is on the receiving end of a hard foul and appears to be lying painfully on the ground, which the producer of the video sees fit to make particularly clear by drawing one of those helpful "It's this guy" circles around him.
H/T to @Sudžuka for calling attention to him Anel Šabanadžović is the son of Refik Šabanadžović, a former Yugoslav international who played with KC Wiz for a couple of years. The club confirms Anel's birth in the US: https://fkzeljeznicar.ba/prvi-tim/anel-sabanadzovic/ Date of birth:24.05.1999. Place of birth: Jackson (USA) (Transfermarkt says Missouri & Jackson Co, Missouri, is part of KC metro) Citizenship of BiH Position Midfield He made his 1st team debut today for FK Željezničar, the top tier in Bosnia & Herzegovina. Has had 3 appearances (for a total of 11 minutes) for B&H in UEFA U17 championship play in 2016.
How 'bout that -- I just made an Academy thread for him a few days ago. That's a quick bump to to the big forum! https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/anel-Šabanadžović-in-bih.2065921/
He's made 12 appearances (8 starts) for Željezničar so far. He debuted for Bosnia's U19 team in September, then played in UEFA qualifiers for them in November. He's a DM.
Lots of syllables, I know. IG - https://www.instagram.com/anels4/?hl=en Highlights - Anel Sabanadzovic is a '99 midfielder born in Missouri who has made 17 first team appearances with Zeljeznicar Sarajevo of the Bosnian Premijer Liga. I believe he's provisionally cap-tied to the Bosnian program at this point. The big news is that.... Reports from Italy that Fiorentina, Atalanta & Roma are tracking '99 US-born Bosnian Anel Sabanadzovic. Born in Missouri, Sabanadzovic moved to Zeljeznicar last year and played impressive minutes at the #6. Sanbanadzovic is son of former Yugoslavian midfielder Refik Šabanadžovic— Joey (@USAprospects) June 16, 2018 This is something that has been reported for a bit now. But certainly seems to be picking up some steam. http://www.forzaroma.info/calciomer...-gli-occhi-sul-talento-bosniaco-sabanadzovic/ http://www.ilsussidiario.net/News/C...nta-il-nome-di-Guedes-Ultime-notizie-/799385/
@TheFalseNine Let's combine the two threads. https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/anel-Šabanadžović-in-bih.2065921/
Ha. The guy I really ripped off was @BostonRed, who I beat by a few days but in the wrong forum. In any case, as they say, first post and $2.50 will get you a cup of coffee.
zeljo! Had no awareness of this. Used to watch zeljo when I lived in sarajevo. They are one of the bigger BiH teams and to have a good derby with FK Sarajevo.
Someone on Twitter (maybe @DontTreadSocer, not positive) said he was preliminarily cap-tied to B&H from the Euro U19s, I believe. But definitely one to keep our eyes on. EDIT: Yep, here's the tweet. 1007818839034417153 is not a valid tweet id
The key seems to be an appearance (or appearances, not entirely sure) for BIH's U17s in the qualifying rounds of the 2016 UEFA U17s. I can see records of him playing for them against Georgia in March of that year. BIH ended up making the finals, but he wasn't on their team for the eventual tournament.
He played in the U19 UEFA Euro Qualifiers this past March & November https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/anel-sabanadzovic/nationalmannschaft/spieler/376106
Indeed. Though that same site has his first cap-typing appearance for them as the Georgia match I mentioned. In any case, I believe the club site says he joined Zeljeznicar in 2010; I'm not sure when he moved back to Europe, but clearly he's lived much if not most of his life there -- his dad retired after the 1999 MLS season, and I guess didn't put down roots in the States. He may not be the easiest guy to snipe, though of course anything's possible.
According to UEFA.com, he played 4 matches in the qualifying phase of the tournament: http://www.uefa.com/under19/season=2015/teams/team=360094/#/num_phase_1
Assuming he stays, are Zeljo in the Champions League/Europa League next season? I don't know Bosnia's CL allotment.
They are in the Europa League first qualifying round. Looks like the first leg will be July 12th and the draw is on June 19th.
It looks as if the draw is tomorrow June 20. They're seeded in Group 8. We should know tomorrow who they'll face in the first qualifying round. Will be interesting to see if Anel is involved. https://www.uefa.com/uefaeuropaleague/season=2019/draws/round=2000986/
Looks like they're facing Estonian giants JK Narva Trans, whose entire squad has a Transfermarkt value of £1.46 Million or roughly Neymar's left big toe.
If they go through, they'll face the winner of Stumbras (Lithuania) v Apollon Limassol of Cyprus. Stumbras currently sit in 4th in the might A Lyga of Lithuania. While Apollon Limassol of Cyprus finished 2nd and have a generally strong team.
