Ya, that is the word starting to get around. I always had an empathy for Andy so I'm sad that this is how things worked out. In those early days, he looked like was having a great time riding on Dichio's back for goal #1 and then scoring his only goal of the season or celebrating as in this shot! Thanks Andy! All the best!!! B
Source? If this is true and it doesn't involve something stupid like giving up wynne or edu, Mo is a genius.
Source is a guy off the RPB site, he basically was the first guy to report that the team got Dunivant, Amado Guevara wasn't going to report. To date he's been 100% on. "Andy Welsh has left Toronto Fc. Today after practice he said goodbye to everyone at the club and told everyone he is going to blackpool in England."
Apparently, the words has been circulating all day. The story is that he is going to Blackpool and apparently the source is impeccable. The story is that Welsh shook hands with the guys after practice and said goodbye. The Red Patch Boys forum seems to have the most inside info. Too much money for too little performance. Hopefully things work for him and more importantly the free cap works out for us.
Nothing on the SkySports Blackpool Transfer page yet. But it is middle of the night over there. Cheers!
Welsh changed his current club status on Facebook hours ago....You guys didn't add Welsh to your facebook lists?? No wonder he wanted out of Toronto....no one wanted to be his friend.
Welsh cut loose LARRY MILLSON From Thursday's Globe and Mail August 29, 2007 at 10:49 PM EDT TORONTO — Toronto FC has sent midfielder Andy Welsh to Blackpool of England's League Championship in a transfer deal that frees up salary cap space for the Major League Soccer club. Before the move can be completed officially, there is a 48-hour period during which Welsh must clear MLS waivers. Welsh is working on a $215,000 (all figures U.S.) salary this year and that would go up to about $228,000 next year when he would be classified as a senior international. So the move gives TFC some flexibility, particularly for next year. Welsh, 24, was acquired before the season from England, where he had been playing most recently with Leicester on loan from Sunderland. He was available because he did not figure in the plans of Sunderland, which this year has moved from the League Championship to England's Premier League. Related Articles Recent To the barricades, it's time for change Linford steps down as president of CSA Welsh was a disappointment with Toronto and never seemed to get settled. Later in his tenure he was being used more and more as a high-priced substitute. The production has not been as good as Toronto FC had hoped from him, with one goal and three assists. He played mostly left midfield in his 20 MLS games, but moved to the right side recently with the season-ending knee injury to right midfielder Ronnie O'Brien. Welsh missed Toronto's 1-0 loss to D.C. United last Saturday because of a groin strain. It was a difficult time to make a move because of the injuries to TFC, but there also was a limited time when the deal could be made with an English team. TFC could be on the verge of bringing in a player or two to help them through the rest of the season. Toronto, which has not scored in seven games, has eight games left in the regular season. The next contest is away against FC Dallas on Sept. 8.
It was also confirmed when I heard it on Fan590 while working the night shift at my job. Said that Andy Welsh is being sent to Blackpool, England and an official announcement should be mentioned today. (Its 3:30am right now)
I think we all saw this coming (including Andy) cuz there was no way Mo was going to use a Senior international spot on him next year. Good Luck Andy!
Now that andy has gone who the hell are we gona play on teh wings, even though some people on the forum didnt like him he was a regular so surely a replacement has to come from somewhere. Also if Mo is making room for a DP then it wont be a winger so it wont really solve that part of the jigsaw although i do agree we desperately need a DP but surelly a striker is only as gopod as the service he gets from the wings???
I wish him well. I never like to see a player not succeed so it is disappointing for me but now MO has additional options for next year and that is always positive.
All I can say is good luck to Welsh. He ran his ass off more than anyone on our team, save maybe Brennan. Plus he did score more goals than Ronnie. All the best Welshy!
I'm still shocked that Mo Managed to pull this off. I did not think that any club in the world would want him at that price. Good Luck Andy, hope you do better at Blackpool.
Did we get anything in return for Welsh? Maybe the rumor of TFC linking with a English side is starting to unfold with Blackpool. Welshie is being sent over to learn how to make proper passes. Although it would make more sence that his ticket is one way....
Andy will be missed if we do not add to the current roster. He was a regular, and regularly managed to win us throw-ins and corners with his runs down the wing (even if he didn't beat his man as often as I would've liked to see). The honest truth is, other than Ronnie, he is the only other true winger on the team and was better than anyone else that Mo had used out on the wings. Mo's managed to pull off a good deal, but he's got to follow that up with a couple of decent acquisitions (attacking midfielder and a replacement winger) at least to make this count. Also, Jo Melo and the other youngsters should be used more during this time as well... they're not going to develop and get better if they are not thrown into the mix of things... its great to have a good starting 11, but you also need decent backups when they're needed (man, have they been needed!). Good luck Andy, and I for one will definately miss seeing you in TFC colours. Come On You Reds!!!
This move is useless unless we actually grab a couple of players for the rest of the season. If this means we get to see more of guys like Joey Melo, than I don't mind.
It is being reported in the local Blackpool newspaper that Welsh might be coming here. Though Blackpool FC never comment on any possible transfers until they have signed. http://www.blackpoolgazette.co.uk/sports-news/Pool-swoop-for-Welsh.3160596.jp
