Andy Nelson Resigns from Stanford

Discussion in 'Women's College' started by Purple04, Aug 29, 2002.

  1. Andy Nelson resigned as head coach of the Stanford women's soccer team, effective September 3, citing "personal reasons."

I guess I'm a bit surprised at this, but more for the late timing than the resignation itself. It's going to be interesting to see who will transfer jobs at such a late date, but Stanford is certainly a lucrative opening.

This is totally a guess, but did he just accept a WUSA job??? The timing would jive.

Nelson allegedly assaulted Wallis and Spilger

This is probably why Andy Nelson resigned. It's from a Stanford fan site:

Well that would be a good reason to resign.
Can't imagine he'd leave the security of Stanford for the WUSA--

While the resignation is supposed to be effective on the 3rd, from talking with a player on the women's soccer team, apparently he hasn't been with the team "since Tuesday."

So it'll be interesting to see how the interim coaches handle tonight's game.
