Andy Johnson of Crystal Palace has been scoring a lot of Premoership goals and is the top English scorer, so far vs West Brom he has scored 2 goals and i think they are his 6th and 7th of the season. I'm not saying he should go in above Defoe, Rooney or Owen but maybe above Vassell, i think Vassell's sun has set.
Way too early to be talking about Andy Johnson for England. He's only played in ten premiership games. Let's wait at least until the end of the season, he certainly hasn't done anywhere near enough to deserve a chance for England. And Smith seems to have already taken Vassel's place in the squad. Getting into the England squad will be a little tougher than that.
HAHAHA!! I was actually just a week out on the private little bet I had with myself as to when the first Bigsoccer thread dedicated to exactly this debate would appear. Don't make me laugh. Think back through the years and ask yourself how many arse-awful strikers would now have England caps if their one little burst of noteworthy activity had led to a call-up. The last one we did that for was Michael Ricketts - and even he had to put in at least half a season before he got to pull on the shirt.
We should make that a banned name in this forum, H*skey. As for Andy Johnson, he's a relatively decent and hardworking goalscorer and as long as Palace are in the Premiership - which considering how poor Blackburn, Southampton, Norwich and West Brom are may be longer than this season - he'll bang them in for them, but unless there's masses of injuries he's never going to get in the squad. He's a far better bet than Ricketts, who never had Johnson's track record of goalscoring, but he's like a second coming of Kevin Phillips really, with a more hardworking attitude and less pace. International football for England is a sprint, it's more about how good a player is on his best moments in a few games when surrounded by quality, not how close to above average they can get over a 40+ game season in a team of scrubs.
Yeah ... which is why he gave Ricketts a go whilst he was at Bolton. Why he tried Defoe whilst he was still at West Ham. Why he played Franny Jeffers straight out of Arsenal's reserves. Why Rooney shot to international stardom in an England shirt whilst still an Everton player. One thing SGE cannot be accused of is myopia of that kind. The basic fact of the matter is that the best English strikers play for the biggest English (and European clubs). That's the case throughout the ranks, to be honest, not just up front.
Johnson is the type of guy who would get picked for scotland ,wales .N.I or rep of Ireland .Only way he is gonna get selected for us is if someone like Graham Taylor takes charge again . Scoring a couple of goals against west brom doesnt qualify him to get selected for us im afraid.
Come on guys you know you want to see Sven play Johnson and Huckerby up top together. Sorry I just woke up from having a bad soccer nightmare. I thought somebody said Johnson for England
