June 16, at TCU's soccer stadium, against either the OKC Energy or Tulsa Roughnecks: http://soccerinformationnetwork.com...a-roughnecks-match-in-lamar-hunt-us-open-cup/
Wish it gave a time. That will be a long trek for many of us on a Tuesday night. Hopefully an 8:00 start.
If I were to guess, we will know after the May 27th match. Probably waiting to know the opponent before confirming their travel schedule...
I vaguely remember us winning the US Open Cup way back when. Is that the only major trophy FC Dallas has won?
True. Every weeknight game (no matter where it is in the MetropPlex ) should start at eight if they actually want fans.
Actually, iirc, Rocket was local for quite some time. Not sure when he went to Chicago, but while he may not always have been Dallas-positive, he certainly writes from a Dallas point of view.
Toyota Stadium had it's turf removed and replaced after the last home game.. This long stretch of away games was used to replace the 7 year old field... So I assume a USOC game needed another home... Now, why FTW? Who knows. With a chance to build a Dallas/OK rivalry, holding the first meeting in FTW seems like a really odd choice, and TCU's field even odder. Honestly, I think the coolest idea would have been to play it on the main #1 practice field outside Toyota stadium and allow an organic, free crowd to assemble and watch. Seriously, only a few hundred people are ever going to show up for this early round game, so why not make it a really unique thing? A few rows deep of fans ringing the fence around the field? That would be super great.
TCU's venue is plenty nice. The surrounding area is much nicer than the other mentioned alternatives. Plus, hardly any of the Friscovites go to midweek Open Cup games anyway. Why not have an attractive, conveniently located, intimate and supportive venue that TCU will provide?
While successive moves across the area have made my handle more and more absurd, certain people have been pushing for a USOC game in Fort Worth for quite a while. This may be a way to test the waters in Fort Worth and do a little marketing to that side of the Metroplex, at a time when they needed to find a different venue anyway. This is a good thing, though it may not end up being a significant thing.
I think it's great to move games around. It will just be hard for me personally not that Frisco is easy on a weeknight. The only other danger is field width. Narrow fields help lesser teams by making defenses harder to get by.
It is a beautiful grass field that can be painted as wide as Wembley stadium if they so chose. It will I'm sure be painted at least as wide as Frisco. The seating capacity is the only thing small about the place.
I guess they're doing this for marketing purposes. Otherwise, one would think that they could play at the UTD soccer stadium like they did several years ago.
Agreed. The drive is going to suck but it'll be a cool experience. Sort of a home away from home game.
I'm glad to hear that and hope you are correct in that they make it wide. I bet either team they play won't be as comfortable on a very wide field as Dallas is and the more room Castillo gets to operate the more looks of terror on the opponents faces we get to enjoy as fans.
Bring your lawn chairs and creative ways to sneak beer in. I'll be there. FCD does no marketing in Tarrant County, so I don't see marketing as being a significant reason to bring the game to within an easy bike ride of my house. Maybe they're aren't any grass fields wide enough with seating for a few hundred or few thousand people anywhere else around?
Whatever happened to the FCD-operated soccer park in Elm Fork? Or does it not have a stadium? I'm cool with it being in Fort Worth btw.
Like I said, they've played some games at UTD's soccer stadium in the past, so one would presume that they could play it closer to home.
I think the complex opened, but the "championship field" with proper seating ended up getting cance--- postponed.
