https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/44203679 Yeah, this one...either the board knows something we don't or...not sure of this one. Blab away.
Never finished in top 4 at Sevilla , finished 7th last year there , once Went entire season not winning road game PSG with unlimited budget lost one team league to a bunch of kids . Never made it out of round of 16 in CL Yep. Should fit right in
If you set aside his record at PSG he's...decent. Still...it sounded like it was nailed on for Arteta but did Gazidis get cold feet or something?
He was okay a Sevilla and that was due to Monchi, whos the Arsenal equivalent to one of the best directors of football in Europe??
Thus is on the Deputy Commish’s Watch now . I expect nothing good to come from his reign . Is it too late for Garber to take him back ??!??
I was ready for Arteta. It was high-risk, high-reward and it would have been really interesting. Arteta as manager would have had my full attention. It also makes Gazidis look like a huge pu$$y
Welp, we're about to find out with this new setup. I'm willing to back just about whomever was going to take over from AW; Emery sounds alright but...honestly, this sounds like Gazidis went for the safe pick in case things went south and he can keep his job.
Totally unfounded speculation: the club was going to hire Arteta, but then ownership stepped in and told Gazidis that if it didn't work out it was on him. Doesn't really make sense otherwise. This is incredibly stupid: the hire itself is underwhelming, and West Ham passed over Emery because of his lack of English. And, to the extent that management rated Arteta, we just burned bridges with him.
You guys need to read this thread. All of it: Let’s talk about Emery...— David Cartlidge (@davidjaca) May 21, 2018
Seems like this might be a slightly premature thread, given that there's been no official announcement? But if it's true that Arteta was all but lined up and then at last minute we switched to Emery, it seems to me that that could've happened either due to Arsenal/Gazidis getting nervous about Mikel's inexperience, or Mikel deciding not to leave Citeh to join us, or who knows. Sure, the Ornacle is a whole lot more informed than the Horse, but still, I'm not counting my chickens quite yet.
Could we start off the new manager's tenure with just a sliver of optimism for once? For the first time in over 20 years there is going to be someone new on the sidelines, with new ideas, a new staff, and new philosophies. Maybe he will be awful, but for ******** sake he gets a chance, just like Arteta would have. Fanbase has to give a new manager time. He's on a 2 year deal reportedly, so it looks like someone knows the potential problems.
I think some of the Emery reaction is really misdirected frustration with the whole new "team". If it's true that Arteta was ready to go and then things changed it's a bad look. If Emery had been the guy from the beginning then I think things would be different. Seems like the club spent a week trying to pump up Arteta as the choice then chickened out
That's my attitude after looking a bit more into him. Best case: the players click with him because of how meticulous he is with tactics and they respond with improved performances and the club getting the kick up the ass they've needed for years. Worst case: Not used to the PL, looks out of his depth, club struggles, he leaves by the end of this year.
So this is from the Sun, so take of it what you will.... The Sun say Emery blew away #Arsenal’s recruitment team — led by Gazidis, Sanllehi & Mislintat — during a stunning presentation a fortnight ago. He staggered them with a forensic analysis of every player in the squad & provided detailed stats & info on how he would improve them. Emery made it clear he planned to build his vision around 2 key players he regards as central to his plans - Aubameyang & Ramsey. Emery’s depth of knowledge of every #Arsenal player left Gazidis & his team gobsmacked — & overshadowed every other presentation, including Arteta's Emery’s attention to detail was described as Guardiola-like & the calm passion he displayed immediately won over Gazidis & co. He knew more about the #Arsenal squad & every relevant detail about their career path & injury histories than people who had been at the club for years. Emery made it clear from the outset that he accepted the financial situation at #Arsenal had changed. Also he is used to working under a similar structure as Arsenal have now.
