For the most recent article, I looked at Key Passes from this past season: https://andthenthehex.wordpress.com/2016/12/29/risk-and-reward-key-passes-in-the-2016-mls-season/ This is a data-heavy one! Here is a chart of passing accuracy by key passes per 90 (all of this from Who Scored): After running this analysis, Morales looks like the perfect short-term coverage for Diaz.
saeid a shrewd pickup by minnesota. jordan hamilton stands out as one of the most unproven names on this chart...i think he would do well with more PT. also think lee nguyen gets overlooked...he's right at the top of MLS for creative mids.
please excuse my mathematical illiteracy i dont know how to read that graph. i mean i get that one axis is passing accuracy and the other is key passes but i dont understand how to interpret what those numbers mean. i also dont understand why there are 3 different colors. if someone could be nice enough to explain please? it would be appreciated.
The link cpwilson80 posted to his blog has more graphs than just the one graph in this topic. It says "forwards and attacking mids are in blue, midfielders are in green, and defenders are in yellow." Being above the average line means a player had a greater than average amount of key passes per 90 minutes. Being to the right of the average line means a player had a greater than average passing accuracy percentage. The players in the top right had the most key passes per 90 minutes with the greatest passing accuracy.
