Shocked that Rodriguez didn't send Ponce off for that.

Someone care to explain to the ESPN announcers that a throw-in doesn't have to be pretty to be a legal one. :)

How is the kick to the ankle only a yellow and not a red? If he went down as if he got shot, he probably would have gotten Rodriguez to pull out a red.

Especially given that the kick made contact (albeit seemingly minimal).

Well, it isn't strictly refereeing content but: WOW!

Ok. Who is this guy and what did he do with Marco Rodriguez? Two clear opportunities to send players off and he balked at both. I'll play psychologist... did he get a behind-the-scenes whack about the Cahill red card and now he's second-guessing himself?

Maybe the rediculous swan dive by the Spainish player prevented the 2nd yellow.

Didn't prevent the first yellow he gave, and there was much more contact and a better attacking opportunity in this instance. And, I can't believe I'm saying this, but he looked like he was going to book him until he realized he already had. It's all very odd.

Yup. Thought it'd be a penalty.

OH! And now it's going to get dirty...

Ok. Should have been sent off for VC. Gets him for a preposterous (or if we're being very generous, a highly dubious) tactical foul later. And after a goal. So it's 2-0 and Chile has very little hope and they are down a man. Already with multiple cautions.

I say we see another red, easy.

all I saw was what looked like incidental contact where Torres appeared to get clipped, and a second or two later Iniesta score for 2-0 Spain. The Chilean player got a 2nd caution for that? Assuming that is true, it was harsh in typical Rodriguez fashion :(

It's also entirely possible he told him he was getting off on the last one but if he so much as breathes on an opponent again he's gone. Giving him the chance to keep himself in the game.

Here's a perfect example why refs should be allowed to give red cards for simualtion.

44:15 ref calls foul on Chile. AR calls foul on Spain.

Well you got it 100% right. Another game spoiled by this referee. Incidental contact and a total accident, he wasn't even looking at Torres he was watching the ball. How this guy got this appointment after his poor handling of Germany V Australia I will never know. FIFA are a joke.

Yeah, it was harsh, but odds are he only got half a look at it and/or the AR alerted him to it.

The lesson is to not step on the heel of a forward who is streaking through on the back side during a pretty good attacking chance.

And it should have been a penalty and he didn't call it for the body check in the area.

Why do you seem to only show up when controversal decisions happen?

The post you quoted analyzed what happened.

    You, again, offered nothing.

You've been warned repeatedly and all you've done since you joined this site is troll the WC Referee board--literally, that's it. Stop it.

Offered nothing? You can't take criticism of referees, that is all it is.

Given my penchant for criticizing officials, that's downright laughable.

Look, you joined this site solely to criticize referees. Your posts, statistics and join date prove that beyond a shadow of a doubt. That is the definition of trolling. You're spoiling the forum and no one wants to put up with it. So you'll be banned shortly.
