Since he’s not making Italys roster, and Italy won’t even make the World Cup, he better switch to US asap. Though probably easier to break into Italian roster at this point for next cycle.

Before his injury he looked dangerous in the PL.

Wonder if his knee really impacted his effectiveness by reducing his explosiveness? According to AI search it made it sound like he wasn’t really trying that hard - “walking around”. Sale to Paris FC feels like a near death sentence on his once promising career but he's still young.

Why is being sold to a Ligue 1 team owned by the richest person in France a “near death sentence on his once promising career?”

Okay maybe I'm exaggerating a little and I did say "feels". :) Just isn't how his career looked to be going. Getting almost no time at the team he was loaned to and then being sold by Burnley aren't great signs based on what he looked like pre-injury - or at least not what I expected.

Debut goal and it's a matchwinner for Koleosho as Paris beats Nantes.

Perhaps time for a thread title change as we missed a whole stop:

Burnley's coaches and IIRC their FO has changed since Luca joined them at 18. Kompany wanted to play Pep ball, which worked brilliantly in the Championship with their financial advantage and bombed in the Prem without. Luca was one for the future in that way of playing but isn't at a club playing Scott Parker's more traditional, meat-and-potatoes game.

He showed last season that he's plenty good enough for the Championship, but the EPL is another level entirely and Burnley decided he wasn't up to it. La Liga is a different but equally demanding game and Espanyol are fighting relegation, which is one issue, and he just didn't seem to fit there, IMO a possible case of "never go back" syndrome.

Moving clubs until you find your place happens with youngsters - e.g. Arronson, Tessmann - but he's only turned 21 and is still playing Top 5 ball. In reality, Championship playoff teams are no less than Ligue Un's bottom third and Paris FC have far more $$ behind them than Burnley or Espanyol. He can grow with them. If he doesn't or they don't, he'll be well-scouted.

All the while, he gets to live in Paris  - not Burnley  - at 21 and on 550-700k a year. Personally, I'd "feel" his situation is fantastic. Green-with-envy territory in fact. YMMV :whistling:

Yes he will be.. I am pretty sure this is just for Weah.

I don't think Poch has Luca in consideration right now. If Luca was thinking about filing a switch for this WC, it probably would have been done already.

This is something I don't quote get about international scouting. Obviously Weah is going to be on the roster if fit, and likewise Luca is nowhere near the radar. Why schlep out all that way to see a guy who's already a proven quantity? Is it merely to spend time wining and dining in France? They already have all the footage and data as well. Being a highly paid international assistant or scout would be a dream job

Yes, Weah will be on the roster..

But is he a starter for the WC team?

What positions is he playing? Is he showing to be much stronger in one position more than another?

Here's the thing about scouting your own players... success at the World Cup won't come down to players 20-26 on the roster. Success will come down to how well the top players are doing.

If all of Pulisic, Weah, Adams, McKennie, Dest, and Richards don't play well, the USMNT is doomed. If those players all play well, the USMNT will be fine.

You scout those players to get into the details of what is working well for them now and what isn't. Then you try to build tactics and game plans around that.

Weah's been playing against strong or stronger teams recently, where the opponent takes the initiative and we get to see how Tim performs on D and in transitions as an RWB or an RB.

Marseilles will spend much of this weekend dominating Paris FC, who'll spend much of the game in a low block. Unpicking a low block is work, hard work. Playing RW instead of RWB poses different challenges playing for a host nation that's expected to open up teams.

Yesterday, Pochettino pretty much shut down talk of "new" players in March. The player ID phase is essentially over. It's now about team building.

“It’s true that it is going to be difficult to bring some new players because we don’t have time. We already assessed more than 70 players that we saw during the last year and a half. I think we have a very good idea. Now, it’s about which of our players are fit and will be in a very good form for us to select the right players to try to compete in our best way.”

A guy like Banks is uncapped but at least he has been into a camp in the fall.

But for people hoping to see players like Luca or Okoh, it's not gonna happen. I also think players like Busio and Lund (who were with Poch in the very beginning) are out.

What about Musah? He's not exactly new, and Poch has played him before. I also don't think he considers Cardoso to be "new".
