yup...and he is not coming back...so why would Scolari, or some of you, think that Portugal would retire the no. 10? It doesn't make sense...there will be a no. 10, I'm hoping its Deco (not that it matters much) but only because it would look nice on a jersey...if its 20, so be it, I'll be asking CSD to hook me up:cool:

In the past, didn't they use to have a draw for the numbers? Is it the same today, or do they now just allow each player to select the number he wants?

    not to my recollection, no

I always thought it was like this:

    1- GK
    2- Right Back
    3- Central Defender
    4- Central Defender
    5- Left Back
    6- Trinco
    7- Right
    8- Left
    9- Striker
    10- Maestro...aka playmaker
11- Striker or other attacking midfielder

correct me if I'm wrong with the numbers by the way

but I'm pretty sure numbers were handed out based on positions on the field

Uuuuuuuuuuuu!!!!????????? What kind of fan are you?

Are you here just to show off your mustache and your "big" shoulders?

-He was The number 10 for Portugal.
-Did you also know that Eusebio wore the number 13 during his prime?
    -Figo wears 7
    -Paulo Sousa was number 6
-The infamous Joao Vieira Pinto was number 8
-Joao Domingos Pinto was probably the best right back portugal has ever seen. He is the Capitao for ever.

Do you believe the guys from Euro 2004 will take different numbers?? I doubt it. They have had them all through qualifying. Here is my guess as to who will be what.

    1- Ricardo
    2- Paulo Ferreira
    3- Caneira
    4- Ricardo Costa/Alex/Emanuel/Tonel/Ricardo Rocha/Muigelito
    5- Meira
    6- Costinha
    7- Figo
    8- Petit
    9- Pauleta
    10- Hugo Viana
    11- Simao
    12- Quim
    13- Miguel
    14- Nuno Valente
    15- Luis Boa Morte
    16- Ricardo Carvalho
    17- C. Ronaldo
    18- Maniche
    19- Tiago
    20- Deco
    21- Nuno Gomes
    22- Paulo Santos
    23- Postiga
