Wow. First time I'm seeing this kid play and he'd struggled to get involved so far. The first opportunity he gets some time on the ball, he squares up two defenders, burns them with his pace towards the endline and cuts it back with his left foot for an easy tap in to put FCN up 2-0 against Copenhagen. Here's the video (poor quality): One week after getting his first start and scoring his first goal, American teenager Jonathan Amon picks up the assist to double FC Nordsjaelland's lead against Copenhagen.https://t.co/9y0eLjumCc— Why always Mario? Just dipped his shoulder to the end line, beat his man for quicks, and laid it back to his teammate in front of net for the assist. Nice play!
I was starting to itch for that next out of nowhereYA success story. Looks like this might be the one.
Here's his assist. Top quality. He seems to be growing more and more each game. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6azvcl
Around 20 minutes into the game, they said that they had asked the FCN coaching staff about the strengths and weaknesses of Amon and they were told that he lacked quite a bit in the tactical department, but noticed that the FCN coach actually was coaching him directly from the sideline during the game, telling him what to do and where to go ... which obviously is only possible during the first 45 minutes ...
Observations: 1. Amon is very short 2. Amon has good pace but doesn't seem to have elite pace (maybe I'm wrong but that is my observation from first 45)
Well .. the two teams were playing rather poorly in the fist 45 minutes ...it's easy to see that the FCK players feel the pressure of being this far behind in the fight for the Championship this year, but they are still a very physical strong team able to put pressure on the young FCN players, who did not really get their usual short passing game to work.
The assist Very nice assist from Jonathan Amon.. another American teenager on the rise in 2017. As a left winger he beats his man to set up a Nordsjaelland goal vs Copenhagen on the road https://t.co/TrhJiKtRJP— Brian Sciaretta (@BrianSciaretta) December 3, 2017
So you are saying that MLS is this poor ? Terrible mess of a game, far below usual standard from both teams, but it's understandable that FCK are using their big physical advantage against the young FCN team when their game plan does not seem to work at all ...
Well ... usually FCN would not be squashed physically as they did in this match, so he did not get to see much of the ball ... but the few times he did, I think he did fairly well ... all considering ...
So a nice long winter break to work on his tactical game might be ideal. While it's not exactly easy to learn tactics it's far easier than learning touch. Love that the coach sees potential and is willing to "coach him up" so he can take his game and their team to the next level.
