So, I'm blind. Right. You can't see that Colombia's strategy is "let's just break someone's leg - a vertebra was not enough", huh?
It's part of the context of Colombia not playing ball, but just fouling all the time and being generally violent, cynical, and unsportsmanlike. Sometimes refs show cards when a team engages in excessive fouling especially when the fouls deny goal-scoring opportunities.
In a game with a million fouls, some do not warrant a yellow. Colombia's red card (second yellow to Cuadrado) did not warrant a card. That's doesn't forgive them for their tactics. And yes that's taking into account the repeated fouling.
Yes, you're blind. Or rather, you are overly emotional. Either way, you are plain wrong about the Cuadrado red. Simple as that.
I really don't understand what you guys are thinking. A striker has a direct line to the goal, is coming in fast, then without any ball contact is shoved abruptly by the defender so that he loses his step and falls, denying him a goal-scoring opportunity - in ANY book, that's a yellow card. He had one already, therefore, red card. The contact itself wasn't particularly violent but it did deny a direct goal-scoring opportunity, which the rule book mandates to be punished with a yellow, at least.
I disagree. Read the rule book and pay attention to the part of the rule that addresses fouls that are goal-denying.
If that was a yellow, this game should have been 9 x 9 by now. Seriously, both teams should feel ashamed how they came out to play this game. I can only imagine how the WCQ games will be.
Stop Brasitusa. Just stop. Now you are arguing that Neymar "has a direct line to the goal" on that play??? Good gracious, he was running parallel to the goal line outside the box. he wasn't even running towards the goal. And there were plenty of players between he and the goal. You're just making things up now.
Denying a goal-scoring opportunity is a phrase with a specific meaning in refereeing that you can look up and apply easily. It's a term of art for a particular thing, not a colloquial idea about whether someone can shoot or not. TLDR, that is not a goal-scoring opportunity in the context of DOGSO. Not even close.
OK, maybe I am. I guess I can't get passed the Zuniga-Neymar incident in the WC. I really hate Colombia. I admit to the fact that my hatred is clouding my judgment.
I'm repping you for coming clean. I figured that was the real reason but I hate to throw around unproven allegations. We know what happened in the World Cup. it sucked. But we can't let it color every decision of ours from here until kingdom come.
Could we stop arguing over the stupid card and get back to the game. Defense has been solid but the offense looks so non cohesive.
I don't see that changing in the short-term if we're doing this typical four-man Brazilian midfield. It will either take a slow but steady evolution that discovers one or two pieces that can change things up (like Elano) without losing anything or an epiphany by someone (Dunga as long as he's the coach) that we can't keep doing things this way. But I've been saying this for literally 20 years, many of those on this site, so I just sound like an old broken record at this point.
Yeah, sure. From my side I've already admitted to the fact that I've allowed my hatred of Colombia cloud my judgment. I know, strong word, hatred, and I don't mean it against the Colombian people who are our brothers, I just mean it in the sports context. Oh God I hope we score and win this game! So many wasted opportunities! I know, a friendly doesn't matter, but I just want to beat Colombia...
