It seems to me that travelling during the holidays, something is bound to go wrong. Now understand I am travelling from Glasgow Scotland to London Luton and then bus into central London. Not a super long trip, maybe 2 hours if everything goes right. However a little thing called snow can make the short trip into almost an all day affair. If you want to know the details, feel free to ask. After finally checking into the Generator Hostel(shameless plug), it was off to the meet and greet and some sports cafe. Loads of scoucer supporters as Liverpool was playing Wolves. After ording a beer, I was able tp locate Josh and the fellow road trippers. Was great to be able to put faces to names from big soccer and the names on the road trip list. We sta down and had a bit to eat with some nice bevys. Finally it was kip time(bed time) as we had an early day for the Villa match. Woke up and feeling fresh as a daisy and no hangover. Got a bit to eat at some small diner by the hostel. Made sure to go to Tescos to buy some Lucky Strike cigs before heading on the tube to meet up with everyone. While the majority enjoy the prematch hospitality thing, I went to the Supporters Club for a few drinks(and honestly it was just a few). Saw Baz, the man who wears half and half kits(one side home and the other way. This includes shorts and socks) to every match. Headed to the Emirates around 12:45 to see where I was going to be. Upper tier green quadrant, Block 119, row 3 was fan-freaking-tastic. Could see the whole pitch amd look down on the away supporters below. Was great to be able to see the goals scored with the need of a telescope(St. James anyone?) or having to look around pillars(Goodison). Also ArseAm and Arsenal Scotland(which I am a part of) were both in the match day program. The post match involved to going to the Arsenal Tavern. There stories on how you became a Gooner, 'Where are you from' talk with the locals, and much beer drinking(a reoccuring theme) went on. Nick (HomeatHighbury) finally showed up(he can tell you his story) and after we started pub crawling, went on to tell people I am Scottish which is true to an extent. However we seemed to be getting free drinks off people so that wasn't too bad. Some looked more rough than others by the time we were heading home. It is now monday which is a free day. Besides writing this, I plan on resting as I am a bit hungover. I'm not an alcoholic honestly. I just live in Scotland and have high tolerance. Not sure when my next update will be. Tomorrow we have the Legends Tour with Charlie George followed by a Supporters Cup match between Arsenal Staff and the Road Trippers. I have heard a rumour that they are going to trying to have Kenny Sampson play for them. I see them Kennysampson and raise them Charlie George for us. Arsenal 'I have started the 'KILL!!!' in the match thread' Texan 'Come on you Gooners as sprs wish they had this type of support' 3
Nice report AT3. Sounds like you've done well. Well, all except I don't think you are trying hard enough for that solid hangover.
This is a great example on how to get yourself disliked by "the locals". Take free drinks, don't buy them one back - then boast about it on an international internet forum! Great ambassador for the USA
Wondered why I spent so much money, and some of those 'Locals'who were so generous to you were people I've known for over 30 years It's called a 'ROUND' For a reason, think you've been in scotland for too long! Still it won't happen again.
