Since the previous thread had gone over 400 posts, here's Part II. Anyway, it's now down to Melinda Doolittle, Jordin Sparks, LaKisha Jones and Blake Lewis. This week: Boogie music with Barry Gibb. -G
Ok I know there are a lot Blake fans here but no one thought that beatboxing worked on that song....come on... That was horrible! Lakisha is freaking disgusting by the way, I can't even look at her anymore...
Jordin definitely had the best night of the remaining four contestants yesterday. We'll find out tonight who the Final Three will be. -G
It's going to be down to the three women, I think. I predict Blake will be gone. If not him, it'll be Lakisha.
I'm not a Blake fan at all. I always thought his beat boxing was too gimmicky. Last night proved it, especially on his first song.
As a DJ who has performed in clubs before, i can tell you that his first performance on Tuesday night was fantastic; it mimicked sound effects to a T, if not better... i never thought i would actually say that i would pay to see an "American Idol" contestant, but... I would go see blake... i was not as impressed with his second song last night... but his first one was enough to carry him, IMO... and since he got through, tonite, fantastic... I don't think that quality beatboxing is ever "gimmicky"... it takes effort and voice and rhythm to be able to pull it off and it to sound decent... believe me, i have seen competitions and such for it... he has a voice and an ability to remix his own voice, it is a one-two punch that I will keep voting for...
i have the utmost respect for Blake's abilities and talent, but his take on YSBD was pushing the envelope past an artistic bonus, IMO. the song is far bigger than Blake, and just singing it straight would have showcased his upper range nicely. from a "political" strategy POV, i get it that he really wants to be different, to collect votes from the folks that would vote for Jordin, cuz she's a kid, to stand out as the rebel, but i would never buy a record of YSBD done that way. it is way too gimmicky. the competition is Melinda's to lose. and i think she now understands that playing it safe might not work. she will have to take chances, not so much in song choice, but her backing vocal past has to be left behind. she needs to demonstrate that she can do more than reproduce a flawless version of a song. she needs to create her own different niche. otherwise, she's just a very good gospel-trained female vocalist. btw, can anyone tell me, other than singing a song with a catchy hook, what the big appeal is with Pink?
I don't doubt the talent that it takes to beatbox. I'm not as knowledgable about it as you are, but the sounds and beats he can make are pretty cool. That being said, I think he's relying on it too much. When it becomes more about him beatboxing rather than singing, I find nothing appealing about it. I'd rather he finds the right balance and use it sparingly, it at all. He has a pretty good voice and he should use it. I do give him a ton of credit though since he seems to be the one with the most showmanship on the show and has taken the most risks.
I've always wondered how many producers and record executives she's blown to get to where she is today. I don't get it either
She's really good too. I just think Melinda is a just a little bit better. And Simon was right, "I Who Am Nothing" is too old of a song for Jordin.
Whoa, what that Sir Mix-A-Lot beatboxing with Blake there in Seattle? Pretty cool. I'm pretty sure tonight is going to be his last night though.
Maybe but it has nothing to do with her performance. She knocked it out of the park. She was right when she said Simon was dogging her tonight.
Melinda might be a better singer than Jordin but to me Jordin has more marketability and is more relevant in her style.
i totally agree with u. Mellinda is the better singer but i think Jordin and blake would sell better.
I think Melinda can pretty much sing anything, so I'm not sure I understand what you guys mean by her "style."
If this was based purely on singing talent, I think Melinda wins. However, I don't think the voters care at this point on who the best singer is, but just going for their favorites. I really wouldn't be surprised if Blake won since he's more contemporary. He did a good job last night and kept the beat boxing to a minimum. I actually thought that This Love would be the perfect song for him and he knocked it right out of the park. I have absolutely no idea who's gonna go tonight. I think if there's one that's definitely staying, it's Blake. I just think he's way too popular right now. I think my other guess would be Jordin; if only because she's younger, cuter, and more appealing to the masses than Melinda.
