I was at the game last night as RBNY defeated Chivas 1-0.

Cowell came on in the 65th minute (as part of a multi-sub wave which saw Ledezma exit).

Cowell was very direct and frantic. Once he got the ball, he tried to go forward as fast as possible using his speed and strength. He drew a foul for a dangerous free kick shortly after coming on, but otherwise was figured out by RBNY defenders who were able to contain him.

It's the same as he's always been. You can see the impressive physical traits, and sometimes it works out well for him. But he needs more tools and variety to his game.

I went and checked the stats when I got home. He played for 25 minutes (31 including stoppage time). He had 14 touches and was just 1/3 in passing, dispossessed twice.

Cade's time in MX has been a mixed bag but these are positive quotes.

"We have a lot of attacking options, and Cowell gives us depth with his speed. He stretches the opposing defense with his movement, and that creates a lot of space for our midfielders," he said. "I believe it’s important to have a player who attacks space and understands our midfielders well. That’s why Cowell is our center forward - because he gives us a lot of verticality, especially when teams play with a high line. We want to exploit his speed going into space. He can also play on the left, of course, and we’ll use him there too, but right now we have other options on that wing."

His coach at Chivas sees the same thing I do.

Speed kills. Verticality kills. It's an irreplaceable necessity in most competitive football sides. I thought that was glaringly obvious during the GC. Too many inverted wingers. Too slow. We needed Cowell but oh well.

As far as I can tell he hasn't progressed much since he was 16. He's 21 now. If he didn't progress in those 5 years... he probably won't.

Which is somewhat disappointing but he's still a useful player. That speed kills and he's just skilled enough.

His finishing just needs to improve. He's decision making has gotten slightly better but there is opportunity there too.

Cade subbed on for Alvarez in the 87th minute, just before Charlotte equalized. But then,

Cowell makes his penalty and Chivas win the shootout.

Cade subs on for Chivas, trailing Cruz Azul 2-1. Chivas shockingly in 16th.

Cowell and Alvarez were scheduled to start against Tigres and Marco Farfan tonight, with Ledezma on the bench. From the above video, seems like it might be hard to play the match.

It actually wasn't that bad. The team should have won, unfortunately they missed a penalty and had a few hit the post.

Wow...what a disaster. Feel bad for him.

Heres a good thread on him, with the stats
    Damn.

    - Started 7 of the last 32 games he's played in, and that doesn't count games he didnt play at all.
    - hasn't played more than 70 minutes in a game in a year

Unfortunately for him, Chivas is on a hot streak with a lot of young talented competition. In addition, the style of play does not fit his style of play and has also affected other talented kids like Camberos and Yadel Padilla (both a part of the U20 WC team). He has been in rotation but has not really delivered enough to stay in constant rotation. Rumors he may be heading out of the team at the season.

Fotmob is all confused - my app has him in the bench for the assist. And it only shows one goal but 2-2

He was just subbed for Chicharito. Overall pretty decent game. Cruz azul adjusted well to him for the second half

And his replacement just flubbed a likely game winning PK.
