Take a look at this week's Budweiser Scoring Leader table. Top to bottom, every player is an American; most of them are even (at least partially) products of our player development system. Now, granted, it's early in the season and these numbers don't mean much (although I wouldn't be surprised to see most of these players in the final top 10 as well), but take a look at the number of foreign players out of the Top Ten Scorers to see just how rare it is: 2002: 4 Americans of 11 2001: 8 of 10 (Cunningham wasn't an American during the seaon, right?) 2000: 6 of 10 1999: 6 of 10 1998: 8 of 10 1997: 7 of 11 1996: 3 of 10 Thinking of the foreign talent on teams, maybe the current situation is due to the fact that many of the foreign goalscorers have left (Diallo, Graziani, Cerritos) and this explains partly why the games have been ugly. But to be honest, I don't really miss those guys...
