Don’t kid yourself. People come from all over the world to live and work here. I put in my time in academia. It’s ridiculous. I don’t know how many grad students I mentored from Asia who were constantly working the visa system to stay.
Look at how quickly you all back away from schools! That’s pretty funny, actually. Are you all unfamiliar with teachers unions?

Or it’s pro-education. When I complain about stupid or ignorant voters my ultimate wish would be that we could create a society where that was not the case. Unfortunately an uninformed electorate is beneficial to many of the people running, they’re much easier to manipulate that way.
I remember senior year of HS & we had a cool English teacher who was a dead ringer for David Byrne. We went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art and during the year intertwined art into English. So we had art books we'd look at we had to do a book report on a famous artist. Well I saw a picture of Rodin's Balzac and worked in as many "Rodin's Balzacs" into the book report as I could. As I was reading it I could see a wry smile on his face as he sat at his desk.
Just an update (not sure which thread would have been best, so I just picked this one) - I am now officially homeless and vehicle-less. Leaving Olympia on Sunday as I head down to New Mexico to spend the holiday with family and help mom get ready to move to France.
You should have used one of PJ’s silly threads, specifically the one about moving. Maybe hit up Taos for a coffee meet cute?
OK, now I looked it up and realized that "meet cute" entails romance. I had in my head something platonic, and totally blew it. Sorry for my insensitivity and ******** up.
