I'm excited. They have gotten off to a good start in the league and the acquisition of Navia seems to be a good one. America will be tough to beat at home. Stay tuned.
Word Levante! I have been really looking forward to this game and Tourney also! I'm really pumped up for this game. BTW thank good for FSW. Navai and Blanco are deadly combo. Let's us not forget about the up and coming star Jesus Mendoza.
I'm expecting, but hoping that I'm wrong, that Penarol is going to be playing an extremely physical and defensive game. Three players are suspended including the best player Carlos Bueno, they've got a new keeper to protect and they are still seeing if they can buy any players to bring to the game. Even the head of the club is predicting that this going to be a very tough game for them. I'm thinkg an ugly, cynical game from the visitors.
Should be a good game.........especially since Navia and Rojas's participation is up in the air. The Chilean team called them up for the friendly against Mexico the night before. Rojas is replaceable, but Navia cannot. Ariel Gonzalez could do the trick though. Still, I see America taking this game with a score of like 2-0. Penarol1916........... I went to the Manya website today to check out some stuff.........man what a website. I war really impressed. Suerte.
Peñarol - Club America Building on what Peñarol1916 said, the last time Peñarol played in Mexico City, it was in April vs. UNAM and frankly El Manya was a disgrace. "Futbol Jurassico" i called it then. it would be easy to predict a repetion of this vs. America. I am not encouraged by the fact that Peñarol's pre-season consisted on only 2 weak domestic tournements (in Maldonado and Paysandú) while America had the CL qualifying tournement plus a few MFL matches. America will be way ahead of us in fitness and coordination. Fitness has never been a strongpoint in Uruguayn futbol - too much parrillada and cerveza Norteño! - and Peñarol are atrocious playing in any sort of atmosphere above sea-level. Peñarol is a team very much in flux with many new players coming in. Just last week the Montevideo press pointed out how in a pre-season tournement in Paysandu, El Many had a back four made up of foreigners (2 Hondurans, a Brasilian and a Haitian trialist.) We really could have used Chilavert for the Copa Libertadores. All of this does not bode well for our chances vs. America or in the CL period. I would like to think that Aguirre is trying to bring a whole new mind-set to the team. If you saw the way Uruguay played vs. Brasil in the World Cup eliminatorio in November in Coritiba, the Celeste played an astonishingly clean game, focused on the game and not on crippling the opponet or starting lios barbaros every 5 minutes ;-) . Perhaps it is no coincidence that the Celeste came withing 3 minutes of their greatest international triumph since the Maracanazo (Ronaldo rescued Brasil with a goal in the 87th minute for a 3-3 tie). Perhaps it very wishful thinking, but with all the new players - and quite a number of foreigners amongst them and thus not 'contaminated' by the standard Uruguayan futbol mindset ;- ) - Aguirre is pointing to the example of the Celeste as to what is possible if you actually play FUTBOL and not Terminator. But I fear that "new thinking" and "Damiani" (Peñarol's cacique President-for-Life) are mutually exclusive terms! :-((( Peñarol No Mas!!!!!!!!!!!! Eugene www.manya.org p.s what time is the game? (I live in New Jersey. EE.UU - eastern standard time)
They are also playing in the Mighty Azteca which holds 114,000. So much presure againts Penarol, and support for America. Definately a Stadium to be feared.
http://portal.montevideo.com.uy/futbolportal/index.html According to this article they are going to be playing extremely conservatively with a line-up of more than a few players that I've never heard of. The fact that my only chance to see this game is in a bar full of Americanistas makes me dread it even more.
It's in Logan Square near Fullerton and California with some guys I work with up there who have a lot of friends on the Mexican American Chamber of Commerce. I'm not exactly sure what bar since I'm meeting them at the Northern Trust office up there.
peñarol vs. america Peñarol will kick ass. I dont care if they're playing in Mexico DF. America is over-rated. Having the money, advertising and help from the referee's they have, they should be the #1 team in Mexico. I want to see Ivan Guerrero play.. A todos los uruguayos, que piensan de Edgar Alvarez y Danny Turcios???? Quien es mejor para ustedes?
Rancho Luna? My brother lives 1/2 a block from California and Fullerton. Regardless. I can't watch it........I do have a soccer game that night.
HEHE MY BAD... I MEANT sponsorING. U KNO TO BE OR STAND sponsor for ..CAUSE I WAS WATCHING THIS GAME AND NONE OF THE TWO MEXICANS TEAMS WERE PLAYING...AND IN THE SIDELINES I SAW THE LOGO OF THE BRAND THAT AME AND SANTOS are sponsor by. btw...IS THERE WAY TO MAKE THESE FONTS BIGGER
Isn't America sponsered by Coke? To answer your question no Mexican companies are not the only sponsors of the Copa Libertadores.
Back on topic. This game and the Santos game are the highlight of the week for me. Most of the clutter around here lately has been about the Olympic qualifiers, but it's the Libertadores tourney that has my attention this week.
