This has probably been dealt with in a previous thread, but just wondering. With Sal Zizzo playing for the 'Nats despite not having played pro football yet, who was the last non-professional to play for the senior national team before Zizzo. I know Claudio Reyna was still at UVA when he was on the '94 World Cup squad, but any others after that?
After watching Donovan blow a penalty kick that would have given the LA Galaxy the Superliga title, I would say, Landon Donovan sure seems to fit the bill.
Feilhaber had not played any first-team minutes prior to being capped. And really hasn't had many since. But he wasn't technically an amateur. And neither was Zizzo.
Feilhaber was capped this year. He made his pro debut last year. He was called-up before playing a pro game but wasn't capped until after he had made his pro debut.
