The Metros are holding open try-outs to local talent, which they say will be used in their reserve squad. This would lead, in theory, to a chance to play on the 1st team down the road.

    Two Things:
    1. This seems like a wonderful idea, and its great if they can use this to recruit local talent. It would be great if the Crew could do something like this with the players in the greater Ohio area.

    2. Damn I'm jealous that we don't have a reserve squad, which I think would really be needed in order to pull this off well.

    2) I agree that a reserve squad would be very cool.

    1) The Crew held open tryouts like this a couple months ago.

But if they were to play for the first team, they'd need to be contracted with MLS, correct?

I would assume so. They would probably get on the reserve team and if they thought they were good enough, they'd work out an MLS contract

The same organization that is bringing in the W-League team are going to operate a PDL team as well. Just saw this on USLsoccer.com

    http://www.uslsoccer.com/pdl/pdlmain.htm

They are going to be in the Great Lakes Divison. I don't know if they are going to be associated in any way with the Crew or not.

The owner in both cases is Joe Milano, Jr. who has a lust for sports ownership (he was an investor in the Landsharks - are they still around?) and apparently had more money than sense.

    He owns Milano's Restaurant.

He also was an original Crew investor, but I doubt he's kept up with the subscription.

Yes. The original landsharks moved, the league gave columbus a second expansion team. Similar to the Brown's situation, just with no waiting period in between.
