http://www.ecupirates.com/index.php..._channel_id=1590&url_subchannel_id=&well_id=2 I wonder if the week of 2/23 - 2/27 is when ALL WUSA teams are having tryouts or if this is just for the Courage.
I heard Omid Namazi say during one of his recent interviews that Spirit tryouts would start on 2/23 so perhaps this is when all of the teams will have them.
Duffy Amanda will make the team. My prediction. Cut it out and put it in an envelope. I have seen the woman play, and boy can she.
Re: Duffy What else can you tell us about Amanda Oddball#34? I take it from this quote in the article that she is a forward:
She is a forward, and when I saw her play against Campbell, she lit them up for I think 4 goals. She just went through and around people and if she had a millimeter of space, she would unleash a shot.
Waived Players Besides Sherril Kester, I'm wondering if there are any other players who got waived that might be good candidates for getting invited to tryout for the Courage? BTW - does anyone know if tryouts for the Courage actually did start today?
Waiver List I just took a second list at the list of players who were waived on Friday and was wondering if any of the following players could be potential candidates for making the Courage as reserve or developmental players? Ann Cook Midfielder Washington Freedom Justi Baumgardt-Yamada Midfielder New York Power Alexa Borisjuk Midfielder Boston Breakers Sarah Dacey Defender/Midfielder Boston Breakers Krista Davey Midfielder New York Power Carey Dorn Midfielder San Jose CyberRays The only one of these players I am somewhat familiar with is Carey Dorn who did a great job marking Foudy two of the times I saw the CyberRays play the Spirit.
Thanks! I knew her name sounded familiar. I'm concerned that with this new 16 player roster, the Courage could end up being really thin in the midfield and I'm wondering who will play there when Hege and Unni are both unavailable?
Re: Waiver List Pure speculation on my part, but I have to wonder if use of the terminology "developmental" means that the league will be putting age and/or experience restrictions on who can occupy those spots? Just something to think about when analyzing potential roster decisions.
"Developmental" Players Interesting thought. I wonder when the league is going to get around to officially defining what exactly they mean by "developmental" players?
Good question. I'm sure the clubs already know. The different definitions of the roster spots were probably all set out in the CBA, which I read has been agreed to, just not yet signed. Who knows if there will ever be a formal announcement to the public, or if we'll just find out by way of a throwaway line in a press release.
Courage Preseason Camp Does anyone have information about the Courage tryouts that were originally scheduled to be held from February 23-27? Besides Amanda Duffy, I haven't read anything about anyone else who has actually been invited to the Courage preseason camp.
aside from driving by the stadium yesterday, didn't see anything going on there. Wanted to use some of my spare time right now to go watch. Nobody but construction folks there. K~
Re: Courage Preseason Camp The article just posted on the team website mentions that "training camp" opens on March 1. I know that often times training camps aren't the same as tryouts, but maybe the team just decided to invite a bunch of people to tryout and will weed them out as training camp goes on? Did that even make any sense? I doubt anything is happening today, the weather sucks. (near freezing and rain) One more reason for spring to hurry up and get here.
Re: Courage Preseason Camp Actually that does make some sense. If there was a separate tryout I wonder how many players would be invited and how many would have a legitimate chance of then getting invited to camp?
Re: Courage Preseason Camp Does anyone remember if the Courage had a tryout prior to preseason camp last year? I watched some of the Spirit scrimmages during their camp last year and as I recall they had something like 26-27 players on their roster in the beginning and then they had two or three dates where they let players go until they got down to their final roster of 18 + two reserves. A couple of the players who were cut stayed in the area and were later signed to temporary contracts when national team duty, injuries, and/or suspensions left the Spirit short of players.
Rookie tryouts The February tryouts were canceled. Amanda Duffy will try to make the team during the regular preseason camp.
