Toronto FC midfielder Amado Guevara has left the club and signed with Honduran side CD Montagua, according to multiple reports coming out of Central America this afternoon. The 2004 MLS MVP and Golden Boot winner apparently signed a 2-year deal with his former club, with an eye on retiring from professional football while playing in his country of birth.

"I'm excited, it's what I expected," said Guevara. "I come to retire in Motagua, that was my big dream."

    Don't come back.

I always felt he was a loser.

I am not a fan of of Amado but sad to say he had more talent than 90% of the american players in this league. For being lazy or a locker room cancer he brings nothing to the table for MLS in terms of marketability. I will not miss him. Hell, he couldn't even get a deal in Mexico.

This thread, snarky as it is, pretty much nails it. Preki's not cutting deals with "career-finishers". With Preki as a coach, TFC's gonna be a force if they avoid the injuries Chivas had.

Guevara was nothing but a model teammate and class act on and off the field during his time here in Toronto.

    He will be missed.

    What does this even mean?

FYI, TFC had an option on Guevara for 2010, that they declined to exercise. From all reports, he and his wife loved it up here and were open to returning, but Preki made it known in no uncertain terms that Guevara was free to seek work elsewhere.

BTW, the Honduran club is CD Motagua, not CD Montagua.

It is correct one place in the original post but headlines both here and on the cited article are incorrect.

Just let the guy leave peacefully, would ya? Funny how people quickly forget this was an MVP in the league.

Well, in the last two years there were zero problems with Amado at TFC. Sure he might have drifted out of games on occasion but he was a force to be reckoned with and could make thing happen out of nothing.

You should see TFC's record with and without Amado in 2009, it's quite startling.

Not to mention he helped guide his small, problem ridden country to the WCF in SA.

    I wish him well.:)

I don't know about you, but it was never difficult for opponents to shut Guevara down.

They just needed a towel handy.

As a MLS neutral fan, I'm going to miss him. Overall he's been good for the league and, most of the time anyway, I enjoyed watching him play.

I wish him well in Honduras and just as much, in South Africa too.

I'll be the first to disagree with most people here.... Sure Preki was an issue for Guevara but also -just like Blanco moving back to Mexico- the WC is clearly an issue... AN MLS club would not grant Guevara or Blanco a 60-70 day "leave of absence " for these guys to join their NT camps.... In their local leagues, they probably will, as they have a vested interest in seeing their own NTs succeed in the WC and a lengthy period of preparation is seemed as essential enough for some players to skip some club matches

It's too bad that old BigSoccer meme about Amado couldn't actually be farther from the truth (at least in the last two years).

from what i understand, Carver and Cummins let him do what he wanted.

Re: Amado Guevara Leaves TFC, Signs With CD Montagua

And surely you know more about the ins and outs of my team than I.

When you say "let him do what he wanted," why does that automatically have a negative connotation? It could also mean that they saw no reason to lay down the law with him. That he didn't warrant any discipline.

And really, did Carver really strike anyone here as someone who would just let shit slide? Cummins, perhaps, but then Amado got along with both coaches, despite them being polar opposites in terms of personalities and coaching style.

But hey, what do I know?
