(Rodrigo M./Enviado especial) http://www.esto.com.mx/030527/fut_inter/8fut_inter.asp
hehe time to kick some South American a$$ oh and Toluca sucks in internationals i doubt they will make it
Good for Toluca. But winning this wont change thier image. They are one of those teams that have a decent history in the MFL but fail to speak highly of the MFL when at international games (Cup or friendly). 1 title back in 67.. Teams like CHivas, Toluca, Leon to name a few had tradtion and history within Mexican soccer... but suck when they play abroad. To many old school chivistas...thier biggest acomplishment at the international level isa 3-3 draw with Barcelona (at Nou Camp). This was back in the 60s if memory serves me right. They tied the game after the started were taken out.
They suck eitherway. They lost twice in the Champions cup against Alajuela and Olimpia and I saw the game with Alajuelense, they had Abundis, Cardozo and all their best player. The next year they lost to Olimpia who then went on to beat Pachuca and qualify to the World club cup that was later cancelled. Toluca have to start to show how good they are because of all their talk of being the best team in recent, they have done squat internationally.
Fellas, fellas let us all keep in mind some things about International competitions within the TFC. The first one being that there wasnt any real competition for many years and these tourneys have not been held regularly since Champions Cup 91 which gets modified all the time. Although i must say these last two tourneys it has improved.
Granted, the tournament that gone through major modifications, and name changes.. but it has been played since 1962. It had only been disregarded on 5 different occasions. I cant remember what team it was from the MFL, but it was awarded the title because the other side had other compromises and the MFL team had other compromises as well. But that was the only international tournament that was available to us and some teams did take it seriously in hopes to play the South American champ. Whether Chivas, Toluca, Leon played with reserves or played to win, the fact is they have never been a good teams outside of Mexico. If it wasnt for Televisa televising Chivas and making them out to be the most popular club, they wouldnt be known in South AMerica on thier own merit. They suck.. plain and simple. CHivas Jr. (Saprissa) has 2 Concacaf titles... I know Mexican teams have not been taking the CCC the past 10 years... but thats still bad. Mexico's best teams internationally are America, Cruz Azul, and UNAM. Necaxa in the 90s was also a very good team internationally. With TV Azteca money, Morelia is starting to become a good team at the international level.
I'm surprised abput some of the selections. Pachuca and Atlante do not have enough a following to representa good Return on Investment for Eddie Aguirre the pre-pre promoter. I have my doubts about Atlas too... Let's see in a couple of months which is the definite list.
why wasnt Morelia chosen for pre-pre libertadores? they are probably the second best team in mexico ATM
I thought they were allready choosen.
IMO.. these are the ones that should get the invitation based on results... not popularity AMERICA - 7 international title. 5 CONCACAF titles. 2 Inter-americana titles. participated 3 times in the Copa Libertaodres and advanced out of the group stages all 3 times CRUZ AZUL - 5 international titles. 5 CONCACAF titles. participated 2 times in the Copa Libertaodres and advanced out of the group stages both times. PUMAS - 4 international titles. 3 CONCACAF titles. 1 InterAmericana title. 1 participation in the Copa Libertadores and advanced. MORELIA - 1 international title. 1 CONCACAF title. They are starting to leave a footprint both at the domestic level and internationa level. 1 participation in the Copa Libertadores and advanced out of the group stage. I do think Atlas is more deserving to go to the Copa Libertaodres than Chivas. Chivas stunk thier first participation in the Copa Libertaodres. Atlas played very well. I think with el Sheriff, they could do some damage... and I think it would be a good experience for El Sheriff. I see him coaching the Mexican National Team within the next 3-5 years. I honestly think that Santos could do vvery well in the Copa Libertaodres. I like Fernando Tena and with a different goalie.. Santos could have had a legitimate shot at the title. Adrian MArtinez sucks. They didnt make the playoffs becaus ehe gave up so many bonehead mistakes. I hear Tena is putting him up for the draft and want to release him.
I agree with you Santos is a good team that has never participated in Copa Libertadores yeah Adrian Martinez sucks i remember watching Toluca-Santos last year in la Liguilla he gave up like 3 savable goals i would love to see Piti Altamirano in la Libertadores Mostly because i want him abroad since European scouts dont look for talent in Mexico
Then that's even worse for Toluca. The year that Necaxa won, they went out in their first game against Alajuelense. They had Abundis, Cardozo and a their top talent if I remembered. Cardozo had one chance at that's it. Face it they choked and they choked in the next one when they faced Olimpia and went out too.
Good for Chivas! if there is any team that should play in la Copa it should be chivas. it would be good for the development of their young players to play in Libertadores (and for their coach also). After all chivas contributes players to the nt more than any other team so Chivas SHOULD PLAY LA COPA EVERY YEAR! Now that Vergara is the boss and he has the money hopefully he would get enough players to compete in it every year (if they make it past pre pre and the venezuelan teams) Vergara should make it a top priority
"Chivas stunk thier first participation in the Copa Libertaodres." can anyone give me a summary of their participation? (what year btw? who did they play) and btw why are pachuca and atlante nominated for being invited but Tigres and Monterrey are not?? they have bigger fanbases than pachuca and atlante if not mistaken (and bigger stadiums)
Re: Good for Chivas! if there is any team that should play in la Copa it should be chivas. popularity should have nothing to do with it. it would be good for the development of their young players to play in Libertadores (and for their coach also). The Copa Libertaodres is not there to develop, but use as a spring board to Europe. I agree, play the young players that are ready. After all chivas contributes players to the nt more than any other team so Chivas SHOULD PLAY LA COPA EVERY YEAR! Thats is not true and dont know where you got that peice of info. PUMAS has actually produced the most NT players. Club America comes in at a short second. Now that Vergara is the boss and he has the money hopefully he would get enough players to compete in it every year (if they make it past pre pre and the venezuelan teams) Chivas participated in 98... the super chivas team as people tend to call them. guess what.. they sucked. One of 2 teams that failed to qualify out of the group stage. Vergara should make it a top priority to sell OmniLife to more South Americans fixed your post
can anyone give me a summary of their participation? (what year btw? who did they play) Chivas, Club America, Vasco da Gama, & Gremio were all in the group. We were the Mexico.Brazil group. Chivas was the only team that failed to advance. [side note: America beat them at home and in Jalisco ] It was 1998. It wasnt televised here in the US. You either had to go to a bar, have a mexican sat., or live close to the border to see the games. and btw why are pachuca and atlante nominated for being invited but Tigres and Monterrey are not?? they have bigger fanbases than pachuca and atlante if not mistaken (and bigger stadiums) Atlante... I dont know... me thinks Alex Burrillo bought that ticket hoping Europe sees more of Chamagol, Rey, and that other player from Colo Colo (it is said he is coming for sure). Atlante paid 1.2 million for Chamagol. That is dirt cheap. Pachuca... I dont know... me thinks Jesus Martinez and Fasso cut a deal with Aguirre.
"The Copa Libertaodres is not there to develop, but use as a spring board to Europe. " the experience is good for young players or any player. I guess that playing against the best teams in the continent in the unique atmosphere of copa libertadores doesnt help players?
Chivas a la Pre-pre The Copa Libertadores serves as both preperation for young players and as a springboard to Europe. Cruz Azul got to debute Melvin Brown and Emilio Mora and just recently Cacho, Ortiz and Corona all had their first taste of the Libertadores. Chivas has a couple of young bucks like Medina and Bravo which can benefit from playing Copa Libertadores. I am just glad that the Club is willing release them should an offer from Europe arise..
