http://www.taringa.net/posts/deportes/15225246/El-uruguayo-Alvaro-Fernandez-al-Deportivo-Cali.html According to some reports in Uruguay and some tweets on twitter. Flaco Fernandez is on his way to Deportivo Cali. Any news? Confirmations?
Hard to say from what's being side on twitter but with the rumors of possible incoming DP player either of Triffert or Verdú. It would make sense to ship Flaco out either as a full transfer or as a loan.
Sweet. Someone that actually reads Spanish. Nothing new on our end. So far all we know is that the twitterverse down in Colombia is all atwitter about a 1 year loan to Deportivo Cali. I did see a tweet earlier that my POS Spanish skills suggest that Deportivo Cali is saying they are really interested in him and that he is coming into town this weekend. 225203008689029121 is not a valid tweet id
https://twitter.com/joshuamayers/status/225245347964911618 Would it be right for me to assume thats there is something to the rumors since they aren't exactly denying it. Nothing to report right now is not exactly denial to me.
Heh. Well, it would be nice to free up a DP spot.. I wonder if a loan does that... I was under the impression that a season long loan pretty much wipes the player from a team's roster, but you were saying last night that S@H was saying that wasn't the case...
To another team in another country outside the league might be different than loaning a player to a lower division team. I never seen Seattle do a loan before to another country before. (Montreal doesn't count since that was a division 2 team in a US soccer league) So the loan rule on still on your roster might only apply if its to a team under the same federation.
http://www.elpais.com.co/elpais/dep...ayo-alvaro-fernandez-reforzara-deportivo-cali Sounds like there is an agreement in place just needs to be signed. Team is hoping to have him this weekend. Seattle won't announce the loan until its a done deal.
I've never seen this before in terms of a loan being used to free up a DP slot in the MLS. I'm a little surprised that MLS does not have a rule in place as this is a pretty easy way to subvert the cap and stash a talented player in another country. I also wonder if Cali is going to pay all of his salary and if not how that effects the cap number. It makes sense from a team perspective you get to upgrade you team while maintain a players rights all without taking a cap hit clever if it works. It will be interesting to see if Alvaro is on the field against Chelsea tomorrow night and if the Euro press rumors start to pick up regarding either of the two targets that have been identified.
What we have been seeing from seattle is loans to NASL division 2 and USL Pro division 3 of US soccer. Not a loan to a different league outside the US soccer structure.
I dunno. I seem to remember that Chicago loaned Nery Castillo out to Aris for the remainder of his 1-year loan that Chicago had with his Ukranian team. He showed up on the Player Union salary figures for the 2011 season, but he wasn't anywhere on Chicago's roster on their website...
Ok no expert on the Colombian league, my main impression is they send a lot of players to MLS. It sure seems like this would be a demotion for Alvaro, does a player have any say in this or could a team send Beckham to the Icelandic 3rd division? As to the cap hit what is the real difference between loaning to Rochester vs Cali? Why would the league care a loan is a loan?
I believe Fernandez has to approve the loan and it sounds like he has approved it. As far as being a downgrade, I have no idea, but you're right, we have a lot of Colombians in the league, but that could just be because the salaries are better here vs. the play being better here. Another thing that could be going through Flaco's mind is that going back to a S. American team will get him back on the radar for Uruguay's national team. He hasn't had any call-ups since coming up here, so he might be thinking that if he heads down to S. America again, he might start getting call-ups again..
I am wondering if the remaining 30% of Montero is also in play here i mean why else would they loan out flaco to deportivo Cali
I doubt any announcement regarding players outgoing/incoming will happen before the Chelsea match. Why take the spot light away from Roger.
Obviously I don't know Flaco, but reading stories I do get the impression he has a bit of culture shock here. So a move to South America makes sense, but I don't know how many non-Colombians are called up from that league. Argentina, Urugay, or Chile seem a more likely ultimate destination, but I guess if your homesick, that Cali-Montevideo flight is waaay better than that Seattle one.
I find it odd that the Sounders would un load Flaco given he has picked up a lot the last two games. He also has 1 year left on his deal. I think this pretty much sums up what the Sounders could do in regards to bringing in a new DP. Unload the only DP who has value in the foreign market. Fernandez came to MLS with interest elsewhere, and left with interest from elsewhere. Rosales is dead weight and Montero is just too hot and cold to gain any specific interest for the price tag MLS wishes to get. IMO this could be a very VERY bad move. Flaco last year picked up a lot of the slack for the dormant Sounders forwards. This year he was just starting to do the same. This team is losing a spark plug that when on is one of the top players in MLS. The Sounders are a weak team in terms of aggressiveness, and have needed a player with bite is long overdue. Losing part of the midfield they worked so hard to promote is odd. We will see how this works out but lately the Sounders have been hitting the panic button… Why? Who knows.
This has nothing to do with homesick. This is a deal the Sounders WANT to make to bring in a new DP (or forward number 150). Don’t believe the brouhaha about homesick. A loan deal to Dep. Cali with 1 and a half years remaining on Fernandez’s contract is a Sounders move through and through. It was the Sounders gm who rang the bell about unloading a DP to bring in a new DP. Fernandez loves Seattle he has said it many times.
Flaco is, realistically, the most expendable of our DPs. Rosales is largely responsible for any of the offense that our team currently has right now, while Montero is the most creative player that we have on the field. You're right that Montero is hot and cold, but that is only in regards to goal scoring, but he most certainly is not streaky when it comes to his creativity and setting up other players on the team. I'd also note that our strikers aren't currently our problem with scoring goals. Our forwards currently account for 17 of our 22 goals and our midfielders have a whopping 1 more goal than our defenders do so far this season. Fernandez has looked better in the last two games, but up until that point, he was A) injured or B) playing like crap. You are right that the Sounders need a little more spark in their offense, but Fernandez hasn't been providing that this season and he certainly hasn't add any bite to our offense this season.
My sense is that Deportivo Cali has some ownership in our Colombian players and is pressuring Sounders FO to do something with Montero so they can make money from transfer fee. Maybe our FO does not want to deal Montero so they are giving them Fernandez instead and also making space to bring guy from Germany.
Or Deportive cali wants to sell the remaining 30% of Montero and it is part of the loan agreement of Fernandez between Seattle and Cali?
He also isn't confirming them. But on the Hanauer Transfer Rumor Advisory System I'd still place it at Elevated and borderline Severe.
