http://www.ussoccer.com/articles/viewArticle.jsp_5177349.html it was just 45 minutes, but what does this mean, if anything, about their participation in today's lineup. 1. that bob is trying to get them as much playing time as possible? so he'll start them in today's match as well? 2. that nowak just wanted them to play with their olympic teammates? 3. nothing at all. they're young. a runout for 45 on saturday barely registers by the time you get to wednesday. and no, i don't want to make this a poll. just interested in your thoughts.
Nothing at all. My impression is that Nowak conducted the U-23 camp independently from Bradley's senior NT camp, and gave everyone a run-out at the end. 45 minutes against a preseason MLS team that's been training for only a few days shouldn't really affect guys who have spent the last month in various national team camps.
It'll give them 45 extra minutes of match sharpness...which helps them compared to most of the MLS guys.
Agreed. That 45 minutes is nothing. I would imagine they do that in training every day. I'm more concerned about Dempsey, considering the travel he had to deal with as well.
I am concerned about dempsey as well. he looke listless at times on Saturday against Villa. He looked bored or frustrated he wasnt running at defenders as I know he can. maybe its the way that Fullham is set up I dont know.
Kind of how I feel while watching Fulham! For the U23s, nothing to worry about - they'll be ready to rock tonight.
What? It's amazing how differently two people can see the same game. I thought Dempsey was very involved and effective, and I thought he played a great game. He reminded me why he was such a good answer at Right Midfielder.
I hope you didn't watch this game, as I think you are really way off here. In fact, I had never seen Dempsey with that type of defensive effort in a game. Your description would be a little more defensible for the games before the Villa game.
I honestly doubt Adu and Altidore will be on the field when the opening whistle is blown. That said, I'll be surprised if they're not on the field at full-time. (My guess is one or both will make it onto the field at halftime, and if not, then by the 60th minute.)
a very fit athlete might warm up at 45 minutes at the level most soccer matches are played, so it's not a factor at all....and being teens, kids can go all day, and night and not get tired
Interesting that different people can watch the same match and see different things. I didn't think he looked "listless", and thought his defensive play and ball winning in the middle third were both pretty good, at least until he seemed to tire at the end. But he didn't get to the byline with the ball a single time. He would drift inside as they moved into the last third, or if it was on his side he'd work triangles and short passes, but never run to the end line. On Fulham's first goal Bullard received a short square pass at the corner of the box and then took the ball toward the byline to get the cross in - something you'd often see the RM do. A number of explanations crossed my mind for the style of Clint's play: * He was instructed to play this way because that suits his style, to keep the match narrower, and/or so he could get back to help Baird faster. * He has played target forward so much he has the habit of playing that way. * Their left back Bouma was covering the run to the byline so well Dempsey didn't bother to try it. * He's just not that kind of RM. He's been looking like a player that's pretty good, but doesn't have a natural position on the field - sort of like Landon, but for different reasons.
I should have qualified my statements , heplayed well had heart but his body language suggested there is something wrong. Running around and being athleteic is one thing. But he even against mexico seemed to play with the ball at the wrong time and is just looking disinterested
