Alternative World Rankings Thread

None of these "underrated teams" by my ranking have done anything of significance. I dont really see any team that stand out to be honest.

 

Also you have Ivory Coast at #19 and Nigeria at #40.

We beat them in front of their home fans in the first round of the afcon while they beat us in the final.

I dont think there is such a gap between us.

Also I would say my rankings takes into account a longer period of results, while yours seems more focused on very recent results (although a few examples go against this general trend)

Basically you want to judge some teams only on very recent results while other teams you judge on longer term trends.

I'm judging all teams on a longer trend , though not nearly as long as FIFA which takes forever (sometime never) to change.

Yes I'm aware Australia's recent form hasn't been great. Your team had a very good World Cup, and those results are keeping them high. I just checked and those results will start to be removed from Australia's totals if they don't win next window.

Most teams are starting to have their world cup results removed from the equation.

When Australia goes down, it will likely be a rapid fall.

LOL Uruguay ? They are better than Japan why ? A team that went out in the first round of the last World Cup compared to a team that topped 1 of 2 Groups of death. A team that recently lost to a very poor Peru team, drew against Bolivia. I mean we can cherry pick results all day.

England lost to Greece at home, plus had a very poor Euro's despite making it far. They drew against Slovenia and Slovakia. Had they not had these horrible results they would be ranked higher.

Portugal also drew with Slovenia and lost to Georgia.

Yes Japan's Asian cup was dissapointing, but all the teams you mentioned have been somewhat dissapointing as well post WC.

Japan has also destroyed Germany, Turkey, and Canada post WC.

Again its good that rankings aren't based on ONE MATCH, but a full body of results, because anybody can cherry pick specific matches like you are doing or like I did above.

Morocco "way overrated" at #11 ? No I dont think so. They were easily a top 20 team even before their semi final run, and they've been consistently good for 4 or 5 years, despite their afcon hiccup. I dont really see anybody below them who you can make a very good case for being better. Brazil has been crap for a while, and Morocco even beat them post WC. Croatia has been worse than Morocco post WC. Not so consistent losing to the likes of Turkey, Wales, and Scotland. Drawing additional matches against Albania, Tunisia, Poland.

Even FIFA has them at #12 while my ranking has them at #11.

 

Yes your points cannot go down as long as you win.

They also will not go up if the wins do not account for more points than the results they would replace. This was the case with Australia.

The next draw or loss by Australia will see a significant drop, because they have some very high points next in line to be replaced. These were results from WC 2022.

 

DR Congo is too high IMO.

Yeah they have been doing well lately but still too high.

 

They're definately on the up and are successfully recruiting a lot of dual nationals.

Aaron Wan Bikassa of West Ham has just been called up fo their up and comming friendlies in June.

Although I don't believe they are better than Egypt, Algeria, Nigeria, Cameroon. (Maybe Cameroon is a toss up actually)

I would rank them just inside the top 10.

They need to show a bit more consistency because they are very on and off. They finished 4th at the last AFCON, but failed to qualify for the one before it.
