This thread was one of the ones that got erased. The main point was not that St. Johns has dropped football, could the Metros make a deal with St. Johns to expand the stadium and play games there if necessary? What about Columbia or Rutgers? I know that Rutgers was approached if the Metros made the playoffs, but they said no. Columbia would have to loose the turf, same as St. Johns, but Rutgers seems like one could play there now. Here is a cool link for Rutgers Stadium:http://www.scarletknights.com/tickets/seating_stadium_panorama.htm Here is Columbia's Stadium: http://www.worldstadiums.com/stadiu..._states/new_york/new_york_lawrence_wien.shtml I think that if the Jersey stadium goes kaput, these three could provide good options. Columbia or St. John's if you want in NYC, and Rutgers if you want a NJ suburb.
Off topic, but indirectly related to the stadium issue, is the fact that Qwest stock has been booming lately. It closed at 5.00 today, and on Oct 21, it closed at 3.00. http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=q&d=v3
St John's DaSilva Field DaSilva Field is home to the men's and women's track and field, and has a seating capacity of 3,000. The field was resurfaced in 1996 to incorporate the new Stadia-turf surface. How can field sports be played on astroturf. That's something I've never seen or heard of before.
Long jump - doesn't need grass. High jump - ditto pole vault - ditto shot, discus - is it harder to measure where something lands on artificial turf than on grass? Javelin - probably easier on grass. Track and field and an artificial turf stadium - no big deal.
I would imagine that shot and disc would be harder to measure because it might have more bounce when they land then with grass.
When they do these events at MOST schools, they don't throw them onto the field -- particularly the shot and disc -- it tears them up too much. And I can't remember for sure, but I am pretty sure that a football/soccer field isn't big enough for the javelin.
