It's probably been six months since we've chatted about the prospective Alpine League combining the top divisions in Austria and Switzerland. Last I remember, the Austrians were more enthusiastic about the idea than the Swiss. But I haven't heard anything since. Any of you in AUT/SUI seen any news on this? Is it a dead issue?
I believe both, the SFL and the Austrian League are still doing their studies on a possible Alpine League. I personally haven't read or heard a word in months until last week, when the Neue Zürcher Zeitung (NZZ) simply stated that Austria would benefit more attendance-wise from a merger than Switzerland. However that was just a small comment in an article discussing the Super League's record attendance so far this season. I personally think the issue is close to dead.
Thanks. I hadn't heard anything after that flurry of interest, so I suspected the Alpine League idea might be hibernating for the winter. Maybe the bigwigs at FIFA quietly told them to forget about it?
I personally think the whole thing was mainly hyped by the boulevard media in both countries. Blick in Switzerland and the Kronenzeitung in Austria... The two leagues know about the difficult obstacles that need to be overcome to create an Alpine League.

I think the Alpine League is a dead issue. I have not seen anything in the Swiss Romand Press for an extended period of time. I am still for a tournament between the top two in each league. Play a round-robin and alternate between the two nations.
