Haji probably starts next game at least. Zero confidence when he's on the best team in the League is still getting his averages and has been scoring consistently for a half a decade is a bit much. Zero confidence would be more Gyokeres right now.
Wright starts! as a central striker (in a considerably modified lineup), Coventry City visiting Stoke City in the FA Cup.
Wright came on at 67' for Simms, who had tied the match 1-1, then Wright scored at 85' to provide the winning margin, 2-1. Great news, as Wright and Coventry had been struggling of late - let's hope this match is a turning point for both.
For Haji, they all count this one was going in anyway, but Haji tapped it home. Super-sub Haji Wright gives the lead🏴 Coventry City 2-1 Leicester City https://t.co/fLNmJ5N2EQ— Ilkonbir (@ilkonbir186392) January 17, 2026
I think the reaction of his teammates when he scored was really what mattered they clearly are behind him even though he's struggled the last 2 months.
Haji got that monkey off his back. He’s a streaky player, so hopefully this is the beginning of a good run of form. He definitely needs it. Luckily for him, Coventry have no problem scoring goals so they could be patient with him during his rut.
They would struggle desperately to replace his value in the January window(his proven goal production for his initial transfer fee)...what do you mean? He's their guy!
All I meant was they don’t rely solely on Wright’s goal output. They didn’t have to panic when Wright was in a rut. Coventry has scored 59 goals. That’s 15 more than the second highest scoring team in Ipswich. Wright, Simms and Thomas-Asante have hit double digits and they have two others that could by the end of the season. Coventry’s attack or form didn’t suffer when Wright was in a rut. That’s exactly why they are sitting at the top of the table.
The crazy money they asked for when approached recently was them slapping a giant "you're an idiot so here's an idiot price" sign on Haji, but he's been off form recently. Yesterday's (offside) goal was his first in more than 3 months - since October 4th to be precise - which is why he scored off the bench to begin with
Wright started today, played 81', scoring the game-winner at 78'. Coventry City 2-1 Millwall. Both Coventry goals here ... Romain grabs his first, Haji bags the winner. 🤳 pic.twitter.com/KKpnTeLaGN— Coventry City (@Coventry_City) January 20, 2026
OK, so does the gut next to Haji get anywhere near the grief that McKennie used to get? I mean that is a noticeable belly.
Business as usual for a consistent goal scorer. Haji is the closest guy to matching Dempsey's Prem scoring record atm, imo.
"Haji is the closest guy to matching Dempsey's Prem scoring record atm, imo." I don't know if this is a good thing or a bad thing that you are stating. He just broke his duck this weekend after not having scored since the 4th of October. He is a streaky scorer so maybe this is the start of a great run of form.
Both of your statements here are hard to compute. As someone else already noted, he hadn't scored in 17 matches (and only had one assist in that time as well). As for the second statement--Haji's scoring in the Championship (and in other 2nd tier leagues prior) can't hold a candle to Dempsey's EPL goal-scoring. Haji may get his chance in the EPL soon enough. I have very strong doubts that Haji will ever get close to Dempsey's 17-goal season.
Haji may not have scored since October 4 until the recent two goal run, BUT he is now tied for 3rd in the championship golden boot race on 10 goals - with TEN other players, including Simms and Thomas Assante from Coventry. Current leader Zipotnik from Swansea is on 13 with Adam Armstrong in second alone with 11.
